Re: Project RRN with R6 tail plastics
I took all the R6 plastics off again & set about the wiring loom. Peeled all the tape off to expose the wires. It had had an alarm/immobiliser butchered on at some point so there was quite a few running repairs to do to the wiring.
I seperated the regulator/rectifier wires that I had previously done a temporary repair on when my original regulator/rectifier let rip!
I then positioned the regulator/rectifier & ecu where I intended to locate them.
I then shortened & lengthened the wiring loom to suit & fitted the regulator/rectifier & ecu to the subframe brace bar under the riders seat.
Fitted riders seat to make sure no wiring was trapped.
I then soldered, heat-shrunk, taped up & tie wrapped the wiring into position. (battery only fitted for pics, need to replace with gel battery) Although not the original wiring colours if you look at the connections to the regulator/rectifier you will see that there are 2x black/brown wires on one terminal. This was a tip given to me by masterblader, the extra wire will go directly to the negative terminal of the battery.

Need to get a couple of lengths of battery lead now as the original leads no longer reach the battery terminals.

Re: Project RRN with R6 tail plastics
Yeah should be ok located there. Once its up & running I shall monitor it to make sure the regulator/rectifier doesnt get too hot!
What you can see is the remains of the standard R6 undertray, butchered down to size to hold the battery. I also have an aftermarket undertray for an R6 with twin clear l.e.d lights.

Re: Project RRN with R6 tail plastics
Just put battery back on, little bit of choke & she burst into life with the second press of the button!
Let her warm up, gave it a few goods revs, i had almost forgotten how louds it is with the ART race can.
Let the fan kick in & out a few times & shut her down.
All electrics seem to be working fine. Phew!
Sorted!!!

Added some footpeg adjuster plates today for a better riding position & changed the heel plates from the solid type to the later ones.

Re: Project RRN with R6 tail plastics
Hey how are you getting on with the footrest adjusters? how much more comfortable do you find them? do they put more or less weight on your feet, I thought about getting some for mine but I need to keep the weight off my feet as I have painful lumps in them :(

I havent ridden it yet as its still in pieces. Ive sat on it & first impressions are they feel great, feels like a lot sportier riding position. As for weight distribution, doesnt feel any different mate.
Should be getting it m.o.t`d in a few weeks time so will let you know how they feel once I have a few miles under my belt........ Although you`ll probably have your fighter on the road by then anyway!

Re: Project RRN with R6 tail plastics
My last one melted the plug.
Thought it would be ok mounted there to be honest but I suppose I could put a piece of ally plate between the regulator/rectifier & that brace bar.
Ive added an extra wire to the regulator/rectifier plug that will go straight to the battery earth terminal.
Had the bike running for half hour on Friday & it barely got warm.

Re: Project RRN with R6 tail plastics
Bloody hell, I know Blades get through these things but you can see how much difference it makes moving them off the ally plate under the air vent!
Has anybody tried fitting a computer CPU fan to aid cooling?

Mine Fireblade was standard when my regulator/rectifier went & burnt the plug out. Mounted on the side of the seat subfame as per normal.

Re: Project RRN with R6 tail plastics
this was after 5 mins of frantic spanner whealding!
you can see the socket supporting it!
but it wasn't bolted down to the heatsink like standard
I was like a red arrow as I rode thru Mansfield!
wondered what the smell was...and why people were lookin...thought it was my helmet!!
