Re: Updating my RRW
Well exciting day today, finally got around to taking my engine up to see Mique and started the stripdown for the rebuild. cant thank Mique enough and I was amazed once more at this knowledge of the blade engine I feel in very safe hands
Scotty also came to help out and I was left making the tea and being watching with keen interest. Glad I didnt try and strip it myself as wouldnt have a clue haha
Engine was in fairly good nick which was a result, Mique is going to provide a list of needed parts after he has time to do some thorough inspection.
Thanks so much Mique for doing this and big thanks to Scotty for helping today.
Ok here's some pics
casings removed:
Here is the mess I left in poor Mique's house, sorry matey :-)

An incredible bit of work and really love the rear end, it totally freshens up the bike.

Re: Updating my RRW
OK not much progress at the moment as im waiting for some funds for the engine work, but santa did bring this little beauty, its a universal master cyclinder from ebay which cabbie shared the link to. I was never happy with my stock one as looked ugly as its on show with the rearsets.
This one has an integrated pot so keeps everything looking neat and tidy

Know the feeling everything purchased for mine revolves around the 25th of the month!
Just waiting on David Silvers opening after the christmas break to order the bits. I am changing the shells and big ends anyway mainly because the engines in pieces as there was no wear to speak of. The only bit of the engine showing excessive wear was first gear and fortunately the guy doing the exhaust had a spare one which he has donated...which was nice.
Hoping to get the bottom end rebuilt by end of the month and then the head work can start.
Happy new year to you.

Re: Updating my RRW
very nice Tone, cant afford to change all my bearing only the ones which need doing are being replaced. Have you seen on ebay theres a nice 945cc piston and rod kit going. JE pistons and carillo rods starting at £150.. could be interesting for you maybe
Other news I need to replace my headstock bearings so stripped the yokes off and decided some gold anodising was in order on the upper yoke and black gloss lower yoke, started the stripping and polishing yesterday.

Re: Updating my RRW
question for the experts, the head bearings the ones ive ordered are tapered bearings unlike the stock honda ones, I guess that means I need to remove the bearing runner and seal on the lower yoke? Should this come off easy as seems to be stuck fast?

Re: Updating my RRW
Apply some heat to the head stock the top and bottom bearing races will just drop out. Tapered head bearings tend to break loose or tighten up causing a multitude of problems. Hondas stock parts although more expensive are roller bearings.

Re: Updating my RRW
ah thanks Mique will give that a go. Will check the bearings when they arrive see what type they are.. They were uprated items according to the auction but could have been stung... Will post up a pic when they arrive.

Re: Updating my RRW
well managed to remove the bottom yoke bearing runner in the end so could powdercoat the lower yoke, pic time
All fitted to the bike now too, just need to get the top yoke anodised now and job done

Re: Updating my RRW
Well ive decided as im going through a performance upgrade with the engine and wieght loss on the bike (and myself) the SSA 800 arm isnt the best choice for the bike, its heavy and ive found the matched wheel for my OZ front so ive decided to jump on the RSV swingingarm bandwagon. Its the best looking conventional swinger by miles so theres no other choice as far as im concerned.. Only decision is whether to go black or keep it alloy.. Im undecided yet..
I have my 800 setup on ebay at the moment if anyone is interested to fund this swap as all my spare cash is going on the engine.
Pic of the bike at the moment, looking very sorry for itself and ignore my working mess and yes the front of the bike is supported by the chair haha, ive lent my hydrolic lift to a friend, where are your tools when you need them!!

Re: Updating my RRW
thanks guys, new arm should arrive tomorrow so will see how she fits. Ive already taken 2-3mm from my frame on the right to fit the 800 arm so in theory the new arm may slot right in.. We will see soon

Just wait till we get this motor fitted buster. You'd need a Busa Bum rather than an Apricot.

If the rear on Cabbies bike is anything to go by it'll look great.
How much weight do you think you'll strip off?

Re: Updating my RRW
Not sure Tone, the 800 arms off so will weigh it and compare it to the RSV once I have all the parts combined, need the wheel sproket carrier etc for the new arm to make a good comparison but the 800 arm is heavy, im sure there will be a 3- 5 kg saving maybe more!
