RR7 or RR10
Monday 18th April
Booked on to the Niall MacKenzie day at Knockers for the whole day
Debate though: feedback appreciated.
RR7 oder RR10.
RR7 pro's:
If I drop it and so long as I'm good, it's not teh end of the world.
May relax more
Neg's
Not as nice to ride as the RR10
Needs a little tweaking - suspension etc
RR10 pro's
Got all the bells and whistles on it, would be a shame not to use them
Love riding it
Neg's
If I dropped it I would cry forever more
If I dropped it I would be out of pocket by a lot

Re: Monday 18th April
I wouldn't take the R1 on track and its worth 1\2 what the RR10 is.
You wont enjoy the day, because you will be thinking how expensive it would be crashing the rr10.
So id use the rr7.

Re: Monday 18th April
just need to set the suspension up.
Might actually try and see if the map is locked or if I can get it re-mapped. Not overly anamoured by it just now.

Thinking that way........................
Although slipper clutch, quick shifter etc all on the light nimble RR10 which is set up correctly for me does hold the question.........

True - If it were bike for bike and a straight choice I would obviously take my RR10 but I would find it difficult living with the consequences of a spill.
It's actually a more difficult dilema than I gave it credit for

Re: Monday 18th April
I'm not voting on this one, it's your bacon that's gonna get fried, but if you take the 10 be sure you can cope if it goes wrong.

think it's even the point that if it did go wrong regardless of teh bike being repaired, mentally it's still a scarred bike, if taht makes sense so I may just stick with the safe option and use the RR7 wehich is the whole reason for keeping it in any case.
For this MacKenzie day though my other mind set was I may get more out of the day on the RR10

Re: Monday 18th April
Could also do with getting a trailor as it was a pain in the ass the last time when I came off and when I needed fuel. The RR7 seemed a lot more greedy than the older bikes who were able to run all day.

Take the HM Plant
forget about crashing, be confident about your ability, listen to the instructors and enjoy the day

Re: Monday 18th April
Yep, it can happen. You've had an off at a track day so you're on the back foot and nervous about the next one. How many did you do before that one and how many times did you come off ?
It's a menatal thing, conquer that and you're back on song
Having said all that, if you bought or made the RR7 into a track only bike there's no question to answer, take the track bike, that's what it's there for.

Re: Monday 18th April
Done quite a few track days mate and only come of the once. It just hurt me my bike and my wallet
It's not an out and out track bike, the fairings I replaced the OEM ones with have a one piece rear cowel, thats all really.

Re: Monday 18th April
Another point is that I will have to run the bike in first. Since I took delivery, it's only done 300 miles or so. I think it needs a thousand from memory ?

The itch is with the 10 safety is with the 7
Not sure if they would pay for a total loss ??
Waiting on a quote to insure it on track

Sorry, why have a track bike and not use it
Ok the RR10 has all the bells and whistles, but did you buy it for using on the track or road
If you did bin the RR7, you'll still be gutted, but just not as much as you would be if it was the RR10. 'SIMPLES' eek

RR7 for me or actually RR6 when the weather gets better.
Best thing I did when I first bought my 600RR-07 was going round Brands for an evening so go and enjoy the RR7 for all it's worth.

Last time on a track 2009 but I'd use it before the R1 as the zx6 is the track bike.shadow wrote:silverback wrote:Sorry, why have a track bike and not use it

It's been in bits since that last track day as I can't be arsed fixing it right now
Also remember, Knockhill is almost a 3hrs drive from my house and any other track is way down south over the border.

did you get a quote to insure on track?
i dont reckon that'd be cheap, probably will only cover for standard plastics and stuff?

Re: Monday 18th April
My opinion on this for what it's worth is take the RR10 purely on the basis it will make a better track bike than your sorted RR7 in many aspects and also you would want more seat time on the 10 in a controlled area so you know it more and understand the differences on the road (where you would use it more) if the cost of the bike is a problem then shell out 300 sheets on a set of hong kong fairings for the track and cut down a great deal of the cost should anything go wrong (though I doubt it would).
I understand you kept the RR7 for the track but after your mishap last year can you truly trust the RR7 without question? would it not be a reminder in the back of your mind that it went batshit.
I would put my trust in the RR10 a lot more than I would the RR7 purely as I think they are a formidable bike and more than capable of taking a lot more and giving more feedback prior to losing it to allow you to back off or recover it, I can't explain the feeling in words but in the saddle it feel much more instinctive.
your choice at the end of the day

Hi mate,
I know where your coming from mate, understand fully what you mean about the RR10. It's just the hassle and cost that put me off should I drop it. Never used to think it would happen to me until it did and all the Bu*****t stems from that result
For sure, it will take a bit of time to regain the condfidence lost from braking my self & the bike last time out.
