Re: My 94 Streetfighter Project
I've done the barrels in black, but run out of the silver for the head, cam cover and oil filter housing.
It seems PJ1 no longer produce the silver, so I've got a slight problem. DOH!!!!

Yeah I've only found PJ1 in black.
Try this though!

Re: My 94 Streetfighter Project
That's what I meant ta Griz.
Do I take it from that reply you're still abit concerned about yours matching?
Your bike has that much going on with the wheels (which are amazing by the way), gold swingarm etc, to the outlandish bodywork and the stacked headlights that I think 99% wouldn't notice and the remaining 1% would be split as to whether or not they would have gone with a mix of glossy and satin or satin or gloss!
As a streetfighter creation it has to be what you are happy with not others.
Besides the Yam RD's and XJR1200/1300's had two different finish paints for the sidecases and block. The 2 strokes also had silver for the actual crankcases as well!
Running from the 70's through to the 90's with those combinations.
Didn't do them any harm did it?

Re: My 94 Streetfighter Project
Hi Yammydave, I've sorted the engine now & sprayed it all with black gloss, the general opinion has come back that the 500f paint should be ok on the head, I wanted to have it glossy to match the rest of the powder coating. When I ordered the 1500f paint I knew it was flat black & thought I'd spray the rest with satin to see what the flat black head & satin black bottom would look like but the satin was actually quite glossy & I thought it looked a bit odd so I decided to spray it all with the gloss black & now I'm happy with it.
Here it is after doing the front of the engine all in gloss.
The swingarm, frame, front & rear brake calipers, side stand, footrest's assembly, front & rear master cylinders, clutch & brake levers, all the engine cases, upper & lower yoke + risers & the shock spring are all being powder coated the same colour as the wheels!
I'm hoping it's not going to look too red but I think with how deep a red I managed to get the power coaters to make up for me it'll look ok, I'm going to try to throw in as much black as I can too to try & balance things out a bit, as for the final colour & finish of the bodywork I'm not 100% sure yet. I do really like some of the crystal & crazer effects but I want to spray it myself due to cost & I think I may be asking to much of my spraying skills to get the kind of finish I want, I dunno, time will tell
Here's some of the effects I like
& here's a better pic of the powder coating, the colour is actually a bit darker than the pic.
I don't think I can make a final desicion until I've got all the parts back from the powder coaters & rebuilt the bike but I'm thinking red & black colours.

Re: My 94 Streetfighter Project
Hope you're right about the 500f engine paint Griz as I've just sprayed my barrels in it! :-)
I think the cycle parts in that red should look the part and that green tank against the polished frame looks brilliant.
How are those finishes actually achieved?

Re: My 94 Streetfighter Project
The crazers pretty much do there own thing when applied I think.
As for the crystal effect, here's a link where I first found out about it.

Re: My 94 Streetfighter Project
Today I cut up the standard gsxr1000 k8 end can to remove the baffles & shorten it a bit.
Before
Drilled out the rivets
Removed the end cap
Ground down the folded lip
Folded back the lip to removed the inner baffles
Then whacked out the inner from the sleeve
Inner baffle/ silencer out
Cut one end off & broke the internal welds to release the pipe
Then I cut off the other end
Then cut off the bent lip
& then I loosely put it back together, all I have to do now is buy some padding & a baffle & rivet it all back together
I may make it shorter yet, I'll have to see when I fit it up.

I just got to get my truck load of parts back from thr powder coaters & then I can put it back together agian
I can't wait to get started so I thought I better get all the little jobs out of the way first, it's shame the list is so long

Re: My 94 Streetfighter Project
OK the best I can do is the back half of the engine, before clean up, after & then after a few coats of spray, I've still got to put a finishing black gloss coat on it yet but you get the idea.
I've also got this Surflex high torque clutch kit to fit (friction & plain plates + springs) I got it off fleebay for £40, the plates alone cost £125! they have only covered 50 miles!
I think it's a good path for me to take as I'm 5'10" & weigh 20 stone! & I don't want the clutch to burnout!

Think i may have to take a leaf out of your book griz, last year i noticed when i was really laying the power down at the peak of the powerband if i went over a small pot-hole or bump in the road my clutch would slip a little. I'll see how it runs when i put it back together, it won't take long to fit a new one.
As with the others i too am really looking forward to seeing your beast come together

Yeah I can't say I've had clutch problems in the past but seeming all the covers are off & these came up I thought it was a good move.
Thanks WB, I sure am looking forward to it too, I think my biggest obstacle will be painting the bodywork the right colour & making as good a job as I can of it.

clutch slip wouldn't be caused by going over a pothole mate
its either the wheel spinning...or more likely...you are riding with your finger on the clutch and hitting a pothole caused you to bump the lever a bit.
if its not slipping under hard accelleration on a flat road...save your money!

Fair point radiobloke, never really thought about the "finger on the clutch" scenario, i do ride with 2 fingers covering both levers all the time, you could be right mate?
As i said tho, i won't be spending any money till i've given it a good ride, i'm already behind schedule on my build due to lack of funds (christmas).

Hiya mate, not yet, I picked up the powder coating parts on friday & I missed few parts so I got to go back & pick up the rest.
I've been going through the over 40 parts I got & removing all the protective tabs & material they put in all the holes & threads & shaving off any excess powder coating getting them all ready for fitting, I've also got to order a load of O rings & gaskets before I can start putting some of the engine cases back on.
Here's a teaser of the freshly coated spring to go back on my Ohlins rear shocker.
