Post by griz Thu 21 May 2009, 23:10

OK I had to rest up yesterday as I was hangin.

Today I finished sanding down the tank & seat & sprayed the tank black & it's come out quite good, although I may have to lightly wet & dry a couple of bits & give it another blow over as I'm not 100% happy with it.

I used Halfords matt black but to me it's more of a satin black & has a fair sheen to it, which is fine as I didn't want to much of a matt finish.

I've also been working on the seat/subframe to strengthen it up a little as I was 100% confident with the easy weld type ally welding sticks I used to secure the frame work, I've jumped up & down on it & can't seem to make it budge or develop a crack anywhere but the last thing I want it it to break on me whilst out riding it!

I've also been sorting out the front mudguard & have made all the brackets & filled the holes that I didn't use for mounting, I just need to give it a rub down & clean up & paint it tomorrow along with the seat too.

OK although I spent the whole day working on the bike & it feels like I've got done a hell of a lot! Laughing

I sorted the seat framework out & made it safe & sturdy so I can now sleep easy on that one!

I also sanded down the front mudguard & primed it & painted it black & I'm happy with that. I also cut the under tray out of the seat unit & had a quick go at fibreglassing some lengths on the inside to screw it back up again but the fibreglass went well out of shape during the curing process so I'll make it again tomorrow & compress it to stop it from taking it's own shape!

Also at long last the road legal baffle arrived so I cleaned it up & sprayed it black to match with the can & fitted it & also drilled out the rivet holes to put the can together again & riveted the can together.

I also managed to get a better finish on the dials holder as trying to ploish by hand using some compound was really hard work, so I re sanded it & then gave it a few coats of lacquer & it's come up real nice now, so now I can go ahead & start putting all the dials in & sort the wiring out!

Thanks for your nice comments guys!

I've been suffering again today so I did some of the smaller jobs that needed doing.

I made some more brackets to fit the headlights & painted it all black, I also fitted the front mudguard too, I've had a few problems sorting out the fixing points for the undertray but I hope to get it sorted tomorrow & get it painted & it should be looking a lot more like the finished article! dance

Here it is now

Hi all, I'm still at it & making some progress & hope to be done by the end of the week!

I sorted some fixing points for the undertray I cut out of the seat
My 94 Streetfighter Project - Page 18 260509

& sprayed the seat & undertray, it didn't look so good when I finished spraying it but after a good long dry it now looks fine! so I'm happy about that Smile
My 94 Streetfighter Project - Page 18 2605091

I also stuck on the sticker for the undertray (it looks orange in the pic but it's actually dark red) & I'm off to the local stickers shop tomorrow to get a few more done
My 94 Streetfighter Project - Page 18 2605092

I've also been sorting the wiring out for the dials & thought I alt to check they were all working properly before I went ahead just to find out that the gear indicator that I ordered in red ia actually bleedin BLUE!!! what a pain in the arse!!!

I'm kinda finishing up on the bike now, I clean the caked up sprocket cover but it had discoloured a bit over the years so I gave it a quick lick of paint.

Hehehe hubba it's in the garage all ready to for some pics tomorrow, I would share some now but I've a little touching up to do!

I painted for the best part every nut & bolt black & when putting everything back together they picked up a few chips here & there so I need to touch them up or the desired effect will be lost!

I just put on all the stickers & I'm loving the ones on the frame dance I'm not so sure about the ones on the tank yet though scratch

OK guys the bike is kinda done but I won't be posting any pics up of it completed as today I had a visit from Alsieboy who interviewed me & took a shed load of pics....

So....... if you wanna see it you are gonna have to take a look at the next issue of the forums mag! tongue

In the pics it looks totally finished but I still need to wire up the gear changer indicator & before I can do that I need to replace it with a red one as the blue one they accidentally sent me just won't do! I also had one of the wires break off the water temp indicator when I was doing the final wiring & I've also got some problems with the rear brake light + just to top it off one on the exhaust engine studs broke off so I'm gonna have to strip it down to remove it (shouldn't be a real problem though) & one more small problem is that I'm not happy with the position of the new stubby can I fitted, in my opinion I think it sits out to far but alsieboy said he liked it, so I'm undecided right now.

In total I've got about a weeks work before I can get it MOTed but to look at it it looks like a done job, I've even had the neighbours come out to take a peak at it & had lots a good comments so that was fun! Laughing

Sorry for the delay with the pics guys but I'm sure you'll enjoy reading the article thumbup
