Re: my spondon blade
One of my neighbours is fightering a bird; to get rid of the intakes he bought an X11 tank, but neglected to consider the differences between the fuel injected and carb bikes under tank area.
It does look good in place but then he's had to cut out and weld in a whole new under section.
Half agree with FBF in moving the oil cooler under the lights but not vertically or you'd be replacing it everytime you braked hard!
It sure is a bulky thing; just right to turn into a feature forcing the lights to be mounted unconventionally either on top of or at either side of the thing.

Wont a 1/4 -1/3 of it go behind the lights?
Or put it above or under the rad?

It'd give different look to the front - a T shaped robot face?
cheers fbf,...but I've seen that done before and to be honest I think it looks a bit shite. theres an iron maiden themed bike like that and it spoils it imho

hmmm...again..not sure..thats a gsxr frame where the intake goes thru the frame..these roll over the top. I kinda need to keep the scoops to ram the air in..I think my inserts would need to be a bit more sculptured. to follow the lne of the tank/frame and 'flow' over the intake. like the standard plastics do. can't use them as they flare out to the fairing and wouldn't cut down too well.
griz wrote:How about making up a box & fitting it here, would it fit?
thats exactly where I was going to put it...but forgot that the petrol tap sits in that space. I could mount it on the other side, so it hides the shock from the rear then put the numberplate etc on it. but again...think it might look a bit gash.
I'll sit and ponder again today...
cheers guys.

Re: my spondon blade
Put the oil cooler at the top under headstock and then put the rad underneath and turn it round so it curves backwards ?
Or lower the headlights and have it above them?
You could even have it high up and vertical behind the lights?
Or get a larger rad and a smaller oil cooler? or HRC low temp thermostat and smaller oil cooler?
Or just a smaller oil cooler up front but hide extra routed hoses for the cooler so you have more oil?
Move to iceland?
What's you new job? Congrats!

Re: my spondon blade
its going here...lots of room for the other leccy bits...
I spotted an old Fireblade battery box and undertray thingy in the back of my garage. simple...rip it to peices and fit it in the engine cavity...using the threaded holes i the side of the frame and a cunning fixing solution elsewhere. should get it all sorted tomorrow all being well.

Re: my spondon blade
spent some time i the garage today.
got the battery box in...but couldn't work out how to get rid of the alarm thats wired into it...or how to fit it if I leave it in...its wired like a box of noodles!
someone could work it all out in 10 mins I'm sure...but I gave up coz it was frying my head.
so I sat there...looking at the seat unit...and set about the subframe to prep it for welding..attacked it with an angle grinder!
and it looked kinda cool...
but the lines weren't right...so...
bottom subframe support in line with the frame angle.
seat in line with the top line of the frame.
I reckon the bike might look cool as f**k all stumpy!
I reckon I'm gonna go stumpy...maybe the cbr6 tail is too long??!??
sounds like a bloody good excuse to spend hours searching ebay and buying more crap that ultimately ends up thrown in the back of the garage!
and while we're at it,...
the mudguard is ugly...need to cut it down...any ideas ?

Re: my spondon blade
Those are both looking gr8.
Of the two I prefer the bird but only just.
I wouldn't chuck either out of MY garage/bed
Just out of interest, what's the bird's new tail plastic from?
For the record I also liked it with just the seat pad

Re: my spondon blade
not much progress today..
re-fitted the exhaust..got the can to sit right.
fitted some new rearsets, and modified the brake so it fitted the rearsets (they aren't made for the bird,...so I bought em of ebay and modded them)
then played around with the oil cooler mount..the 3rd try at making the brackets so far. the cooler is on the botom of the rad...but I have to go to version 4 which has a few issues to work out!!
and before I could do that I had to straighten out the cooler...was a bit ...a lot...twisted.
so..floor...plank...big hammer....its not flat, but its nearer than it was thismorning!
and hows about THIS for a 'German inspired' seat unit
