Looks like budget builds will become the norm over the next few years.
No consolation, though having a skill (and your clearly a skilled bloke RB) will no doubt increase your chances of new employment.
Was you with that company a long time?

Sorry to hear you had the bullet.Perhaps you could get a welder with redundancy and learn how to.I think with that skill too you may open up new ideas and not have to rely on others?Maybe you could learn through jobseekers help?Just a thought mate.Your build is awesome chap.Don't let the job thing control the end result but i guess budget always does in the end.

Re: my spondon blade
In a similar boat mate, our company has been telling us every 2 weeks that they might make us redundant , since November. Ok they havn't yet but I'd prefer not knowing uintil it happens rather than being reminded every other week. 9 people were made redundant last week, with more on the cards, they've being doing the employee scoring excercises etc but the writing is on the wall before they even started - they know who they want shot of , and now I think they're doing redundancy waves to avoid 3 months consultations for over 20 - it's the biggest dirty tricks campaign I've known of.
Hope you get sorted quick as possible.

Fear is a form of control.
Fear of redundancy for employees, allows management pretty much free rein to do as they please, just as fear of terrorism allows governments the same privileges.
Being self employed is presently pretty much like being on the dole, with the odd days of work here and there, but at least you know no one will ever make you redundant, or sack you because your face doesn't fit.
There is always a way round problems so long as you maintain a positive attitude and don't let the negative media control your mood.
If redundancy does bring money worries, I'd urge you to visit the Citizen's Advice Bureau without delay.
A fantastic bunch of volunteer helpers who really can make a fantastic difference to your financial situation in times of difficulty.

Re: my spondon blade
ok...been some time...so here's whats happened.
not much actually!
Project Dolebird...the spend available at the moment is...er...next to nowt!.
I need to buy an ignition switch. but can't justify it at the moment...life sux!
so...I might be hotwiring it
last update saw the engine in the frame and up on its own legs..
I had a box of wires but no idea where anything went!...kinda like a jigsaw puzzle with no box lid.
so I joined a blackbird forum..got some info and downloaded the service manual.
long story>short...
The engine carbs airbox coils and everything in the main engine area is in...
everything is plumbed and wired up...and ready to be butchered at the front and rear ends.
need a subframe welding...and sorting the lights etc at the front. and sort an oil cooler mount bracket
kinda coming together now!
all thanks to having no friggin job!!
lots of engine stuffed in..looks kinda ugly but brutal
I can see the finish line...wanna ride the frikkin thing

Re: my spondon blade
NEWS JUST IN....
I start my new job on monday!
so I spent some time in the gargage to celebrate!
some upto date pics...a few changes...but it'll be hard to see at first!
most things are little bitty crap ...
after busting the original angel eyes headlights I stumbled accross these angular jobbies. so they are on and looking ok for a quick lash up after making some brackets.
still need the subframe sorting but had it out in the open again for another look.
not sure if I should keep the ugly air intakes as they are or cut them down...kinda like the uglyness...but gotta do something to infil under the tank.
and looking at how to mount the oil cooler..Its a blade rad which is curved rather than the straight bird one.
looking at mounting it under the rad, but struggling with sorting a strong enough fixing....summat to think about!
then I got to thinking about mass centralisation, and the small size of the subframe. I haven't got a gel battery so the battery mount could look oddsticking out the bottom of the bodywork.
so...the opyions that I'm looking at are to put the leccyboxthing in the frame space. but I've got to work out how it would mount. and sat typing this,...one of my plans has gone to shit cos I forgot the position of the huge petrol tap and twin pipes.
theres a small treaded fixing point on the inside of the frame...and a frame web that could be drilled for a bracket mount. but it was so hot this afternoon I thought it best to stop before I did summat daft!

Re: my spondon blade
Like that loads RB.I think if the air intakes wern't crappy looking plastic it wouldn't look too terrible.I suppose you could always put fancy mesh grills on em or ally grills all shiny?Could you beef up the bottom rad bracket and put the cooler below it?Or could you use two coolers on the side of the frame rails.Oops,i think i may have heat stroke............Best of luck with the new job RB.

Re: my spondon blade
Could the oil cooler be mounted vertically between the forks just below the lights?
It'd give different look to the front - a T shaped robot face?
