VFR Swingarm into RRV
Hi all.
Cleggy here, just joined your fine site as i've just got my habds on a RRV in very good condition, Unfortunatly the purists amongst you will be sad to here I plan to streetfighter her.
I fancy a Single sider and i recon a VFR swinger will go in, but I'm not 100% on it.
Theres a VFR 800 swinger on evilbay for about 100 quid
Has anyone done this?, will it go straight in?
I'm also wanting a top yoke conversion if anyone can point me in the right direction.
Thanks Fella's
cheers

Re: VFR Swingarm into RRV
Here's details of a tried and tested conversion on an RRS..
You will need the complete swinging arm assembly, except for the suspension linkages and shocker off a VFR FP-FS model, the rear brake hose off the above, and a spacer made up 25mm Diameter 20mm long with a 20mm hole in it.
Jack up the rear of the bike by putting a piece of pipe through the rear footrest hangers and support it with axel stands.
Remove the chain and disconnect the rear brake hose at the master cylinder.
Remove the shock absorber top mount bolt and then the bottom suspension linkage to frame bolt.
Remove swinging arm pivot bolt and entire swinging arm assembly.
Insert VFR swinging arm except for wheel and insert pivot bolt. Now on the clutch side of the frame, remove the threaded adjuster bolt and push in your machined spacer and re-fit adjuster. Take up all the play in the arm using this adjuster and then tighten the pivot bolt nut.
Re-fit shock absorber and all it's linkages as per stock swinging arm.
Fit VFR brake hose and bleed the rear brake.
Fit VFR wheel.
Use your stock Blade chain with the VFR socket.

Re: VFR Swingarm into RRV
Found this a conversion on a '98
Before...
a 1994 Swingarm..
This is the Spacer on the right side. It's 20mm long by 25mm Diameter and a 20mm hole for the pivot.
He added these washers to guarantee clearance between the shift linkage and the swingarm.
He ended up with better clearance from the washers in the previous picture.
This is the brake line from the VFR, But the brake lever and reservoir from the CBR.
Here's it fitted..
and with a '99 wheel..
The 5.5" rear wheel from the 99 VFR is very close to the 94 VFR swingarm.
plus being a newer wheel it had to be notched to fit on the hub..

Re: VFR Swingarm into RRV
Nice post Alsieboy, didn't think an 800 arm would fit. Mine is a 750 Arm. Just been offered a wheel n arm for £200 on Streetfighters mcc site if anyone interested?

Look again, it's a 1994 arm with a 1999 wheel, the notches on the wheel are to clear the nuts on the '94 swingarm
It does look good though!

Re: VFR Swingarm into RRV
hi just about to do the same conversion, does anyone have a spare spacer they wouldn't mind selling me?
I'm going to do a slightly different conversion & fit a triumph 955i hub & wheel which will give me a 6.00 wheel over the 5.5 wheel of the vfr800 & all being well I should be able to run with a wider tyre. Just waiting for all the parts to be delivered & then the fun will begin!

Re: VFR Swingarm into RRV
All my parts arrived yesterday but the breakers on eBay sent me a 90-93 swingarm & not a 94 as advertised so that will be going back & now I'll have to source another one

Re: VFR Swingarm into RRV
thanks very much, very helpfull. Been playing with this idea for a while, but if its that simple, id be stupid not to do it!
one thing tho, which years of vfr swingarm will fit my '97 blade? or would any year fit?
making the spacer is no problem, being an engineer does help a bit
cheers for any help

Your welcome mate!
The differences between the arms can be seen below.
This is the pre 94 arm & as you can see the linkage is totally different from the underside of a blade arm.
& here is the 94-97 arm which has the same type of linkage as a blade swingarm.
The differences are worth noting as a lot of sellers out there don't know the difference & will sell you the wrong one.... like what happened to me! lol

Hi mate, all blades from 92-99 use the same swingarm off a 94-97 vfr just make sure the linkage looks the same as the gold arm
