Re: project whenever!
Thanks LC, you're right i was 'leaking' a bit while polishing. Don't think cornering will be much of a problem not ridden for 6 years so chicken strips will be more like ostrich strips

Re: project whenever!
hi Clive
it looks like you and I are working on the same type of project but you are way further along than I am. I got the subframe mounted today as well as the sssa. Put the cans on and saw there is no room for the y-connector because of the cat converter. Have a buddy that might be able to do a modification, but i also took a ride down to a guy that makes custom choppers and I know by the look he gave me he did not want anything to do with it.

Re: project whenever!
Hi Gerald, had to cut the 'cat' out mate and a bit more, then weld it back up again, to get it to fit,
end result looks like this
Let me know how you get on, think i've got some pics of where to cut somewhere, if you need them

Re: project whenever!
thanks Clive. How did you make out on space between the swing arm and the pipe ? I have a funny feeling that the pipe over here has a slighlty bigger diameter

Re: project whenever!
took the bike to a local car exhaust fitting place, and the guy made the link pipe to fit into what space was available, He was able to bend the pipe in any direction using a their hydraulic pipe bender. took a couple of attempts but he did a good job. The pipe was slightlly bigger diameter ( 62mm i think) so it went over the original where i cut it off, but the 'y' piece was able to go over the new pipe due to where i'd cut it to shorten it, once it was all welded together, you wouldn't know it had been altered. These might help

Re: project whenever!
Well at last i've got my headlight brackets!!! Really pleased with them
So had to start polishing. Eventually ended up looking like this
Then had to do it all again on the second one!, couldn't resist having a mock-up
A bit of temporary wiring and..................
Now that's done i've got somewhere to mount the front indicators
thats it for now, my mate says the speedo bracket shouldn't be to long now so fingers crossed

Re: project whenever!
Managed to get a bit of time in the garage today, dropped the exhaust off and fitted new gaskets forgot to order new ones when i originally put the exhaust on so re-used the originals, anyway new ones on and exhaust re-fitted. As it was dry and sunny(ish) thought i'd get some pics outside.
Got the clocks mounted
A couple more to see the overall effect
just got to finish the wiring then start rubbing downready for paint

Re: project whenever!
Yes mate, needed to do something with the clutch cable anyway due to the higher bars so thought might as well order a hydraulic line from venhill and convert it. Already got the master fitted to the bars ( from an 04 blade ). the more observant of you will have spotted it in earlier pics . With a bit of luck i'll get it fitted this weekend, & measure how long the line needs to be.

Re: project whenever!
Well, after a hard 4/5 months both financially and emotionally I've finally FINISHED 'project whenever'
Need to get some insurance now then mot & tax then ride it!!!!!. Quite apprehensive about riding it though ( the last time I rode a bike ended up in intensive care for a week then 18 months recovery) that was 7 years ago so wish me luck guys. Anyway enough waffling here's a few pics
Anyone got any suggestions where to go for 'modified' insurance?
