Chainguard
Gonna make a chainguard out of ally, brushed or mirror stainless for my RRW. There's two brackets to use but one is miles above the chain! Can you guys suggest a suitable shape n brackets?

Re: Chainguard
gotta ask...why bother?
just grind off the lugs and it'll look much cleaner than a guard imho

Re: Chainguard
Depends on the bike, like on these blades the tail is over the line of chain so you can get away with it with an advisory.
Try MOT'ing a FSIE without a chain guard and she'll not go through.

Re: Chainguard
Got my MOT without a chainguard on Thursday. Guy said the cops might not be impressed. I know the brace would catch a broken chain and the original is as much use as a chocolate fireguard, but I wanted one!
Made my first attempt at a chainguard. Eventually decided to get rid of the top bracket and use the rivnut in the front of the arm.
Had some 1" stainless and some 1/2" for brackets, polished em up a bit and bolted em together for now, final version will be TIG welded with no bolts or holes!
Cleaned up the arm with a Roloc sanding pad in my angle grinder and bolted up the guard;
Whadya reckon?

Re: Chainguard
That IMO is a great idea Megawilly, that one piecer will stop all the chain lube splashing into every nook and cranny moreso on footwear.

Don't fancy making a carbon hugger?

Re: Chainguard
The idea was that the one piece would be more practical than Hondas attempt to contain splash back. If the edges were rolled over a tad it should be even more effective, looks are a big issue with SF's and sure you can make it look the DOGS.

Re: Chainguard
May try it next. Hugger may get carbon skin treatment or I'll use mirror stainless. Alloy first for ease of forming and drilling! Should blend in with arm n brace too?

It'll certainly blend in Al.

Re: Chainguard
How about this alloy hugger with alloy or stainless chainguards?[img:bf46]http://[/img]

Re: Chainguard
I think if you use a metal hugger it will take away the look of the swinging arm, personally I'd prefer it carbon or colour matched to the new paintwork.

Nice work so far alan!
To be honest I think those are quite sharp lines on the hugger & guard, I think I would make the lines a bit more rounded to stay in keeping with the rest of the lines of the bike & I worry that if you leave the hunger in polished alloy it'll make the swinger look huge BUT that's just me....
The best advice I could ever give anyone when making one off stuff for there bike is to do it there way as it's your bike & your vision if ya know what I mean?

Re: Chainguard
I'll make it out of ally and see how it blends or otherwise with the arm or paintwork. I have two aerosol cans the same colour as paintwork, so I may see what it looks like then or even in black. All your ideas much appreciated gents!

Re: Chainguard
theres far too many conflicting angles in amongst all that
looks confused!
maybe start with the hugger and take some angle's from whatever you build. that way it will look like its been designed rather than a few bits of random metal bolt ons.
a mixture of top and bottom lines from the hugger, replicated on the chain guard. and rather than introduce the horizontal lines...go with the same lines/angle as the bottom of the hugger
should look better then

Re: Chainguard
maybe the bottom line of the hugger should mimic the same angle as the lower arm brace?

Would an R1 hugger fit on top of that over brace Alan?
As far as a chain guard goes, chuck it away and stop talking so ghey

Re: Chainguard
Will deffo be nicer than a combined hugger/chainguard. If it looks good, I'll make a mirror stainless one as well!!!
