Re: Skye
Are you taking one road up and the other back? The Mallaig road is gorgeous, and the Kyle of Lochalsh road is just sublime. Some of my favourite in Scotland.
If you're going up the Mallaig road there's a little detour marked "alternative coastal route" or something similar, just a few miles short of Mallaig. If you like giggle making stupidly tight twisties take this.

Re: Skye
I go up to Skye every year. Usually get the ferry over to Mallaig for the night for a few beers:0051: . West highland hotel has secure parking outside by means of a big barn type thing. The wifey behind the desk was taking the piss oot of me one year for chaining up my bike:oops: . She looked at me as if I was stupid and sais "naebody nicks bikes fae Mallaig" - "theres only the one road in and oot!" True enough when I put the bike in it was full of quads, bikes etc. The locals are brilliant as well, just easy going folk who are very welcoming.
Apparently if your nicking a bike from Mallaig, IF you make it out the village, they just call the polis at the end of the road to pick them up. The locals dont like thieves up there at all and will deal with it promptly:987: .
Hope you have a good run, how many on you are going?

Re: Skye
Well i went to Skye me and 1 other, i think the weather put a few of the lads of but thats up to them (remember this is Scotland ) in 1 day as they say but upwards and onwards i say. The 2 of us left at 9am in the rain but as we got past Glasgow airport it started to dry up, we got it not to bad till the Green Welly then it was off n on the rest of the way up over the rannoch moor down through Glen Coe into Fort William. Stopped for a brue, then back on it through Spean Bridge, Invergarry and on to the A87 (if you have been on it you know what i mean) up to the Kyle and over the bridge to Skye and up to Portree. When we got to the dig,s we were fairly dry as between rain we had some nice DRYING WINDS so we were not dripping water all over our landladies front porch . A good night out was had at the Calidonian Hotel where there was a band playing, and pretty damn good they were as was the we met a couple of bikers from the Keith area i think the older chap said there was 19 bikes up with some of them 2up i think they said thare bike club was called MOREY COAST MCC so if any of you know them say elo from me.
Next morning up bright and breezy fed n waterd and on the road heading back the way we went up rain and all ...... All i can say is ......... ROLL ON THE NEXT TIME
My big mate Bill

You know they say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit?NuttyTart wrote:Rain.....Scotland....West Coast....hmmmm you surprise me
We were really lucky with the weather when I went up those roads, but even in the rain I reckon they'd be wonderful.
