My restored CBR900RRP
Hi Guys,
New to the board, thought that I would share a couple of pics of my 16,000 mile RP, bought is in August last year, it was in pretty good nick and never been crashed. What started as a quick tidy up ended in a full rebuild and a hefty bill, but now it’s finished It’s been worth it.
Got it in Fast Bikes a month or so ago, since then I have ditched the badly re-painted silence and bought a new one. I have loads of other pics if anyone is interested.
Cheers
Ross
question is, how do I insert images?

Re: My restored CBR900RRP
Heres some more pictures and while I’m at it a little bit more info. As I originally said bought the bike in August last year off Ebay, it was low miles, pretty much original other than a very period purple screen and a hideous fluorescent hugger and bar ends. It had been dry stored for 5 years and bought back to life in 2007. Rode it for a few months and started stripping in around October, but as I stripped it the more I ended up doing to it as I really wanted it to be mint so I ended up:
• Powder coating all brackets, wheels, yokes & rear suspension spring!
• Plated all the brackets, bolts, spindles, spacers & nuts, rear pegs, back to the original bright zinc or olive black.
• Re anodised the swingarm (To get the marks out from the hugger) and top yoke
• Re-valved the forks with ohlins springs, Re-gassed the rear shock & service, from MCT who did an awesome job.
• Shot blast and ceramic plated the headers
• Replaced Front and rear discs, front and rear master cylinder & calliper seals, suspension bearings and seals, silencer, screen, bar ends, grips, clutch and throttle cables, air & oil filters, valve clearances, Renthal chain & sprocket (Dropped 1 tooth a the front), all new water hoses & clips, water pump cover, numerous screws, O’rings and seals
Ended up spending as much on the rebuild as I did on the original bike, it got out of hand a bit but the end result is worth it. Took loads of pics as I stripped it and tried to log every bolt with it’s size finish ect, sounds anal but when you get a bag of re-plated bolts back you need to know where to start. Anyone contemplating doing the same I would say go fo it I loved doing it, just take more pics as you strip it down as what seems obvious in November looks baffeling in March!!
It needs a clean after Cadwell 2 weeks ago, so I’ll get it spruced up and take some more detailed pics
Heres the pics roughly in order:

Re: My restored CBR900RRP
So let me ask after all that hard work and not a little money spent; how much does it bother you with the tiny things that most people don't even see, such as the corrosion on the front of the engine under the headers or the salt that gets where the engine mounting webs are?
I know the answer really, you can go on and on trying to get it absolutely perfect.
So what's next; ride and enjoy, sell, store for your retirement pension, start another?

Re: My restored CBR900RRP
Thanks guys, mainly new parts were seals, pads, bearings and discs. the rest was just cleaned up.
I know exactly what you mean about the front of the engine, I did contemplate stripping the engine and having it bead blast, but I didnt as the cost would have been huge and to be honest the engine is box fresh 16,000 miles as built by honda, if I stripped and rebuilt it, it would never be the same.
Since finishing it I've done about 1,000 miles on it including 3 trackdays (The handling is perfect with the serviced suspension). The bike is too good to lock away and store, it was made for riding!.
There a clutch kit on order as it slips a bit if I just touch the lever, but thats it.
Cheers Ross

Re: My restored CBR900RRP
Hi, I am currently restoring the same model and a RRN 92.
The bikes i am starting with are a bit more sad (corrosion)unfortunalty.
But the RRP should turn out nice, i am interested in how and where you got the Re-anodising done.
Is it expensive and was it local to the midlands, The swing arm looks great.
Hello to the forum as well, i am Simon. A 10 year time served Honda bike mechanic and Ex Superstock racer now working on a techinal department for a Large breakdown company.
I was just starting out in the dealerships when the RRN was delievered and so i am a big fan!

Hi Ross, im in the process of putting mine all back together - not as comprehensively as yours though, and i am really struggling with the decals. I need to get the tank sorted and some of the fairings. Where where where did you get these done?

Re: My restored CBR900RRP
Hi Ross, new on here tonight. Bike looks great! I have just bought and stripped down a 1993 RRP twin headlight version, my intention is to return it to its original standard condition. I am having trouble with sourcing the decals as didxxx above.
I believe the bike was initially registered in Tennessee, USA. The colour scheme is standard but not sure it was available in the UK, it is red, white and blue but the block style colours instead of the early tiger style stripes.
Would also love to know about anodising, best place to source spares etc if ever you have a few minutes.
Many thanks, Scott.
