Repaint project RRS
[b]Hello Bladers and Bladets
Being new to the site i thought id post some pictures of my soon to be finished respray on my RRS
The weather this winter seemed a tad colder than normal (or am i just getting older) this year an as the wife was due a new car i gladly accepted the offer of her old runabout this winter.
Now as i work in the motor industry for nearly 20 years i thought id get a freebie from my kind boss who offers to paint my bike if i do all the work... Fair swap so off come the panels in Dec 08
and slowly I've been repairing the chips, dents and scratches my trusty 95 urban tiger had picked up over the years
I got a new carbon exhaust sleeve from road and race as i couldn't find a replacement for my Johnson can which matches the same bore as a ducati?. Along with lots of polishing--- i love polishing !
Now in a clean worthy condition. The obvious oil and coolant change was needed and a new clutch cable is on order.
After stripping the plastics off ive noticed the o/s upper engine fixing bolt is missing with the thread still in the hole which ill tap out next week so a few tiny problems to look at over the week before the repaint next weekend
I had the wheels sent off to the powder coaters who powder coated them white, (originals were black)
All panels have had three coats of very thin primer as i dont want the paint to look really thick as some customs jobs i think look unprofessional like this,
All panels are now rubbed down in 1000 grit paper ready for base coat and clear...

They will hunt him down fastbikefinder & when they catch him they will do to fireblader what we all did as kids to "daddy longlegs"..... pull the legs off one at a time! Lol.
On the other hand they may well just want to shake his hand! Thats one less original tiger on the road making theirs worth that little bit more!

Re: Repaint project RRS
The one and only reason iam not going to spray it back to standard was the original sticker prices and even in the trade they were were just stupid money..
you cant import them from tapeworks they wont let you. prob a honda thing cause they will sell you other generic kits,,
I even looked at getting them reproduced but finding some one with the right printing equipment was impossible..
Youll just have to wait an see how i desecrate the urban tiger with fresh colour...ha ha [/img]

Tell me about it; cost me £400 for the 2 rear seat panels for mine through Dave Silvers with a 4 week wait from Japan.
Compare that to those they are selling at £69 each on colour code NH343!
Honda certainly aren't stupid!
I did consider the same route as yourself or a different scheme on my bike, however the thing is with the Mr Hanky or Urban Tiger colour scheme is I can sit out on a nice day and just look at the bike.
Personally I usually find if I ride a much newer model, I return to my old bike and find myself wishing I owned a new bike, with the way it both rides and looks.
Love the riding position (though my wrists do cause a few tears sometime) and looks of the Tiger, so prefer to keep the standard colours.
Sometimes I think it can save me more in the long run; if i grew tired of the looks do you think I might find myself looking to replace?

Re: Repaint project RRS
Know what you mean Dave, that's why I started collecting bodypanels to do a race replica scheme and swap for a change keeping th originals tucked away safely...
But decided against it, cos of the price of painting etc..specially when you consider the price of those aftermarket kits that wild bill is using. it's just not finacially viable to do it yourself

You read my mind.
There has been that much mixed opinion regarding the kits it made me a little bit apprehensive about buying one, though a guy on the other site has since fitted one and documented most of the problem likely to occur.
I think mine will have to be the repsol, which you thinking of?
