castle coombe
morning all,
Ive made a definate decision that I will do my first track day in 2008, the closest circuit to me is castle coombe and just wondered if anyone had done a track day there and what its like, ive watched videos on ou tube etc but just wondered if anyones been there and how goods the organisation/facilities, I would probably rather go somewhere like donnington or cadwell but for my first one I thought best to go closer to home, (also would mean i wouldnt have to book overnight accomodation)
cheers peeps

Re: castle coombe
cheers stuart, good to be back, just got bogged down with work and what not and never got online, still that should change now
n20, im planning on going with some people from work, ive been in contact with castle coombe and theyve told me that they'll do a discount if more than 10 book (£100 instead of £125) so a bit closer to the time if we let each other know what date were planning if we booked together we should be able to get the discount

I've not been there but by all accounts its a bit on the bumpy side and the noise teating is very, very strict
But hey, give it a whirl

Re: castle coombe
what are the noise levels like there, heard it is one of the most restrictive tracks around. not sure i would get out on track with the aftermarket can fitted now..would not mind doing a track day there as looked good when i came down the the bike night there last summer....also when are they starting again as would not mind turning up again.

Re: castle coombe
The noise limit for the day is 105 db(A), which is measured at ½ metre from the exhaust outlet at ¾ maximum revs. It is the rider’s responsibility to ensure that their machine is within this limit. All machines are sound tested prior to going out on the circuit. In the event of a machine failing the sound check, then the rider will be entitled to a 75% refund. If you are unsure if your bike will get through the noise test (i.e. if it is fitted with an after market exhaust system), then you can always come over to get the bike noise tested prior to booking a place.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING SOUND TESTING
Manufacturers are now launching bikes with shorter Moto GP style exhausts.
Whilst they look great, the smaller silencer means that some of these new bikes are over our noise limits. We do appreciate the frustration of buying a brand new road legal bike only to discover that it is too loud to ride at Castle Combe.
In our experience the following machines may not pass our strict limits:-
Suzuki GSXR600 – 2006 model
GSXR 750 K6 & K7
GSXR1000 K6 – 2006 model with standard exhaust
Yamaha R6 – 2006 model
Allowing just one machine on to the circuit over our noise limits could jeopardize the day to all our track users - hence the rigid policing of the regulations forced upon us by the local authorities.
That is what they say. I'm putting my standard can on anyway as it's only a 2 minute job.

Re: castle coombe
If anyone is still interested in doing this please PM me as I probably won't be able to do it now.
As they won't refund the money, I'm going to sell my place there, 100quid.
Be quick.. the weather is looking very good for a track day!

Re: castle coombe
I dont think there's a cost of transfering over, the website T&Cs says this:
" Once purchased, we are unable to accept cancellations or requests for refunds. However, if the nominated driver is unable to attend, a replacement driver can enjoy the course provided they arrive at the appropriate time."
