Anyone been to ARD at RAF Odiham?
Ive just found out about this place, I knew they did the disabled rider schemes here as Wes went but didnt know they do proper track days also!! Ive just joined up and have booked a session this Sunday This is very local to me so im over the moon as was itching to do a track day but everything was just so far away! Cant wait!!
Just ordered a DB killer for the exhaust and now need a new rear tyre! This could get expensive

I went to one last year. Really cheap trackday for £60 plus £20 club membership. You have to get your entry in early usually. Did two days at Snetterton with them for £140.

Re: Anyone been to ARD at RAF Odiham?
Thats generous, the msv tracks (oulton, cadwell, bedford, brands, snet) are 102db.lambchops wrote:Thanks Shadow cant wait!! They have a noise limit is 105 DB is that the normal figure tracks look for?
I think donnington is 102db also.
Silverstone is done on a rideby basis, or it was 3 years ago.
Rockingham didn't have one when i last went, but that was a few years ago.

Re: Anyone been to ARD at RAF Odiham?
OK thats good then shadow as my bike is loud and not sure how much impact the DB killer is going to have.. They have helicopters and what not taking off there anyway so how noisy can a couple of bikes be!!
Just ordered a new supercorsa to be fitted tomorrow, just hope the weather holds out!!

Decibel killer really quietened my blade, made it sound like a T-max.
Had to drill some holes in it to get some noise back!

Re: Anyone been to ARD at RAF Odiham?
Errr, Dude, have a great day an'all that, just make sure that new rear is WELL scrubbed in so the release agent doesn't send you for a shi77er on your first session lol
Seriously, paddock stands, 2nd gear, and sandpaper on a small block of wood; just LIGHTLY allow the sandpaper to skin across the surface of the tyre across the whole tyres, one side to the other.
If you have time, then take it for a gentle tootle for a few miles on the road; your new shiney tyre will be your friend on the track day.
And as it will be nice and grippy, make sure it doesn't push the front one too hard.
No, not all doom and gloom, just basic 'track sense' so you prep yourself and bike for a great day instead of a misery 1 sessioner lol
Been there, made the mistakes as others have, learn from OUR mistakes!!
Ask any other questions, we'll all be glad to answer but maybe it'll end up with info overload ha haa!

Definitely agree with iggy sandpaper the new tyre, always do mine before I go anywhere near the road. Got bitten once years ago with a new front at 5 mph!!. Have a great day out mate

Re: Anyone been to ARD at RAF Odiham?
I had a great day at ARD, bike behaved very well and I realised im not as quick as I thought I was haha
Never done a track day before and the beginners group was fully booked so went in to inters thinking im pretty quick I will be ok.. Well on the sighting lap was struggling to keep up with the bike in front and thought hmmm could be in trouble here!!
Well survived the first session and really didnt push that hard, had the new rear tyre to bed in and thought ive got all day lets not rush it. Pulled in after 20 mins buzzing realy enjoyied it. Second session was better felt more confident in the tyres and was slowly increasing my speed as I learned the track, people were flying past me but I was doing my own pace pointless trying to push to stay with them, passed a couple of folks so felt better Was getting done on the main straight though by the newer machinery as its 1 KM long and sorts the fast bikes from the slow!
Also had some brake judder which when your braking from 160 to a 30 mph tight bend wasn't very nice! so was getting done on the brakes also
Anyway the second session was to be the last dry session as then the rains came :( I hate riding in the rain and have no confidence at all so used the time to increase my speed in the wet. Bit of a shame as I know if it had been dry for one or two more sessons it would have all come together!
Anyway heres some pics, and a video Speedo under reads 20% as havent got a speedo healer yet for the CBR600 clocks so 130 is 155 ish. Well thats my excuse anyway and im sticking to it haha
Early start as you can see, taken from loomies

Re: Anyone been to ARD at RAF Odiham?
Wide variety of bikes in that one, rare to see the rs250 expensive to maintain them now.
ooowww im spotting ohlins forks and shock on that r1 sp.
You did a good job for a first time on track, plus some corners wet and others completely dry arnt best to learn the place.
That standing water into the last corner is a recipe for locking the front, especially on softer road tyres.
Id try and avoid getting on the power over the white lines, its highside territory, its also why the faster guys are going in deep so on the exit they can get the bike stood up to fire out on the center of the tyre, if it lights up on the paint then its no real problem.
When you go back, ask an instructor for a guide round, you will benefit alot from that. (its free at normal td's but not sure on this type).
Glad you liked it mate.
