Book using either of the above sites.
They are the companies i use all the time.
Im at mallory with no limits, tomorrow, then rockingham with hottrax on monday.
Seeing as your in london, brands would be a good one to try.
You will need leathers, textiles arnt allowed.
Far as the machine goes, make sure its, got plenty of life in the tyres and brake pads, no point going then finding out, bits are worn out.
Drop the pressure in the tyres to 30\30, that should see you right.
I take the mirrors off.
Thats about it really.
Do a session, then ask one of the instructors for a few guided laps, its what them guys are there for.
Above all, have a good day.
Need anything else, or want to know more, just shout up.

I would only add that dropping tyre pressures is dependant upon the type of tyre. If you are using road based tyres, I would get advice from the tyre man on the day. They usually run with a different construction & don't need the lower pressure to heat up, shape up & grip.
Go on; you know you want to.

The only document I have had to produce is my licence, both parts if you have the newer photocard style. One thing I do is cover my speedo, so I don't distract/scare myself!
Also, use a van or a trailer, if poss, a track day can be surprisingly tiring.
Finally, the first 2 I did, I went on Novice Only days, I think it helped, but the choice is yours.
Get on one and do it, enjoy!

Re: want to do a track day!!
If you can get time and are not too far from a track, you can find out when a convenient track day is on and just go and watch/speak to the organisers to get the hang of it.
Try http://www.uktrackdays.co.uk/ to find dates
Becareful though, once you get a taste for it you'll want to do very little else!

Re: want to do a track day!!
Brands Indy is a great option for a first time. Nice and short so you can soon learn the track. MSV do Novice only evenings or days, but not entirely neccesary. As Shadow says, Get in the novice group and get instruction for a session then practice, practice, practice.
I did an evening at Brands indy as my first day in April and Ive done 5 since. Seriously Hooked!

Re: want to do a track day!!
Remove the number plate as some tracks have a little guy with a camera and if the worst happens, he could send a picture to insurance companies and they could void your insurance.
Best advice I can give you; slow and steady until your happy you know whats what.
