Old Blade, new fairings

Post by AlBlade on Sun 02 Oct 2011, 22:07

Here is my 2008 bike 'refreshed' with a set of the China copy fairings - made a 'shabby' looking bike look like new...

Few images of re-clothed blade on holiday in Spain / France

85 litres of stuff in Ventura luggage on ferry from Portsmouth to France

Next to a big mountain

This is the kit for sale with the seller listed

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CBR-1000RR-08-ABS-Bodywork-Fairing-SET-YH155-/260757378002?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3cb659d3d2

Not been able to get the seat pod supplied to fit or the tail section to fit correctly - tail unit a nightmare part, the under tray part is fine as standard unit fits to it.

Blade had done 'loads' of miles - side fairings pitted, under tray had loads of paint chipped off, just generally tired.

85 ltrs of ventura goes look huge in that pic - not sure why as it did not look that huge - could not tell it was there most of the time

Have a read here with all the details - had lost my login for this site at the time.

I would say yes, but you have to be realistic - the fairings are notoriously 'fiddly' on the 08+ bikes, I added some extra fixings and if I did another set would have a better stab at correcting the problems I had / have on mine - but... they do the job, and if nothing else preserve your original bodywork for sale time.

With your repsol you could so the swap keeping the original panels mint in the loft, then swap back and sell off the china kit and get 'most' of your money back.

I hear what you're saying but when I look at, ride and wash the Blade I want to see it in all it's glory lucking perfect including the panels fitting, stickers lining up etc, I'm a fussy ferker Laughing I get upset if stone chips appear under the rear seat unit which is out of site and only seen when washing hammer There is a submarine shaped mark, 5mm long and 2mm at it's widest point that has appeared on one of my panels in the orange and it's now showing black through. It's doing my head in and I'm replacing the panel for a new one so I wouldn't cope with panels that didn't meet where they are supposed to pullhaur2 but hey, that's me and I can't change how I am Smile might think about a set for track days though Cool

Everyone to their own thumbup

Might be worth a PM to lambchops on here. He built his RRW into a TT legends blade which was featured in Practical Sportsbikes. He got his fairings from a company in Australia called Ozzy fairings and stated in the mag he was well pleased with them.

I've been checking out the china copies too and wondered about fit. Would you say all the fiddling is worth the effort compared to a respray?

Looks the nuts btw Smile
