Re: Project Very Slow
Thing I prefer the plug access on my CB13 lol.
Was hoping to get the plugs out and some oil down the ports so I could try to start her tomorrow but, bugger, no toolkit and the plug tool from the CB is too big. Anyone know if the tool from an 04 fits?
Stuck the battery on charge last night and it's saying charged so that might be one less thing to buy lol
Hooked it up to check the mileage, 23564, so hardly broken in yet.

Re: Project Very Slow
The plug spanner from the 04 is 10mm and will fit your blade. The bigger spanner for the CB is probably 12 mm

Re: Project Very Slow
Plugs out tonight no problems, cheers to Bazza for his plug tool Wee bit oil down the ports and new plugs fitted.
Fuel tank and oil drained, just need to figure out what to do with a gallon of crap petrol, new filter fitted and some nice fresh oil. Best treatment she's had for a while I'd think.
Some fresh petrol in tomorrow, battery fitted and fingers crossed that she runs

Oh well, battery not as good as 1st thought, held a charge but must have a cell down as not enough to kick her over
Would have taken the battery out the CB but then the alarm goes off so it's Ebay for a new one tonight

Re: Project Very Slow
Got her started today after getting a loan of a start and charge.
Good points. Started pretty much straight off, once I remembered that she had a choke, and sounds pretty good.
Not so good points, will only run on the choke down to about half closed then dies. Same result when you give her any throttle.
I'm assuming that it's the carbs. Hints or tips before I jump in and start stripping anything I don't need to

Well I'm no expert but I woulda thought the carbs need a good clean.

sounds like you've got that old petrol in there...or could have gummed a jet up or summink

Looking like the carbs will be out for a clean. Think it's ran long enough to get the clean fuel through from the tank and I fitted a new set of plugs so can probably rule them out.
Wee job for tomorrow then lol

Great news about getting it started , surely just some crap in the carbs that's not allowing it to run freely You'll soon ave that sorted

Re: Project Very Slow
Al, you may find that some of the jets are completly clogged with yellow gunk from the old petrol.
A high acidity vinegar of 6% acidity or more is really good for soaking old carbs in for a coupleof days, think sarsons do the 2 litre glass jars for about £2 each. Also get some 0.4mm Endekay dental sticks from the local pharmacy. They are basically metal flossing sticks 0.4mm thick with tiny bristles on them, they're great for clearing gunk build up in jets:
Sounds strange but a very effective and cheap way to clear knackered carbs.

Thanks for the tips Fastbikefinder.
Had a browse through the Haynes manual last night and it says I need a overhaul kit too.

Re: Project Very Slow
Pilot air screws have a tendency to seize after a period of storage.
These are brass cross head screws extremely fragile any pressure and they break off. Stubborn screws need some WD40 with a screw driver bit a rapid number of taps should release the seizure, when there is some movement just rock the screw to and fro patience is required as the threads are microscopic so go easy Al.

Re: Project Very Slow
Problem solved
Guy I work next to who has a lot of experience with carbs has told me to bring them in to him and he'll strip, clean and set them up
I'll pass on the advice about the pilot air screws and the rubbers, cheers FBF and Masterblader
