My new one

Post by shadow on Fri 07 Jan 2011, 18:22

Sorry haven't got many pics, it was dark when i finished work.

Its not a fireblade, because dealers want stupid money for them, so i went with a R1, its a 06 with 8k miles.
O and it 1000% hasn't got an alarm. Laughing

I will take some more, when\if the sun comes out. Smile

Post by shadow on Fri 07 Jan 2011, 21:06

Thanks everyone. Smile

I will get a pic of them together.

Im hoping it dries out, so i can go for a run round the block with it some point soon, but first bit of a clean. Smile (maybe not to Dazza levels, but just a waft with a cloth), then set the suspension and levers for me. Smile

Tyres are good, brakes are all good, this one has the Brembo master cylinder as standard.
Would like braided lines, at some point.
Then of course a set of exhaust cans. Razz

SHADOW welcome1 to the R1 club thumbup If your looking for carbon heel plates 'new' I have a set if you want.
Don't think the pegs have changed between the 06 and 08.
Oh and if it was mine, i'd have the wheels GOLD.

This is an 06, i couldn't find the same year blade, with the same miles for less than 1.5k more than this, hence the comment.

I would have had any though, gsxr1000, zx10, this R1 just happened to be the best deal going. Smile

woot woot

Im going to change the screen for a clear one, the blue one has loads of scratches.

I hadn't thought about heel plates, but if there going spare, then by all means. Smile

I need to get a paddock stand with hooks, as the swingarm on this isnt flat, to get the cups under, doh.

Gold wheels Suspect perhaps a job for next winter.

But first, in the words of megawatt, get out there and use the bloody thing. eyebrow

Re: My new one

Post by fastbikefinder on Sat 08 Jan 2011, 14:12

Of all the 2006 bikes I think the R1 is probably the best quality all rounder.

Blade - Alternator , Loom, Corrosion and Radiator problems - Most sorted by the Big H, 1 still in denial

Kwak - Poor paint finish-scratches real easily, discs warp early

Suzuki - TPS problems, Clutch woes, and head stocks coming off the frames.

The R1's finish however is amazing, certainly passed Honda and they don't seem to go wrong - some selector problems on the gearbox, has an easy fix. They are however a bit revvy + peaky but that is fun for most.

Enjoy.

I went out for the first time on it today, yes its mega mega fast, but happy to potter along if you want to.
Im 5ft 11 and its alot more roomy than the other bike, 99 R6.

Brakes are outstanding, even when cold.

One happy bunny here. Very Happy

What are your plans for it? Is it for the road with trackdays or is it a new track tool?

I like the R1's and they do have very good build quality these days.
I fancied 1 a while ago, but the lower back complained too much, hence the bike I have now.
Enjoy it mate

I would get the suspension set up correctly and fit a steering damper, they can be a tad twitchy at the front if ridden hard.
