Exile wrote:Ive got SERKS MARSTON to do me a 1-off rad aswell, 3 to 4 week turn around
the filler cap being moved to the left hand side with an intergrated expansion tank
The bottom hose will exit at the bottom of the rad instead of the back
fan will be centrally mounted
The top hose will be a straight run over the cam cover
Should look cool
Wicked, same size rad + fan?

Will you upgrade the fan?
Why ????
The core will be the same
Im not quite sure what the extra hose above the top hose is for that runs to the stat housing, i take it that its a circulation/air bleed hose
Is it really needed ????
The 900 Hornet doesnt have it, or am i missing something ????

Re: Bitza-Blade
Just curious, shortening a hose route (if it is ??) gives you slightly less coolant in the system which is spending longer in the hot engine, and now with the new hose going over the top of the hot engine rather than outside in the breeze (even when faired as standard) let alone having a built in heat conducting expansion tank.
Living within the m25 can be a hot life anyway so was curious what else you were doing.
Not sure about the Hornet, do they have the same size rads aswell? they look similar but can't tell which has the bigger chambers.
Your rad build sounds great, Serck do nice builds. Will it be polished or painted?
Just ignore me it'll no doubt be fine anyway

Re: Bitza-Blade
Are you gonna get the fan switch fitted to the back of the rad so that you can put a nice rad cover over it. Difficult to do with a standard rad!!!
Guest- Guest
Re: Bitza-Blade
Yes m8 the fan switch is gonna be mounted where the std bottom hose outlet shoud be
I can see what you mean about capacity loss and the heat by shortening and re-routing the top hose
FORM or FUNCTION ???????
I was initally gonna ditch the fan aswell so i could get the rad mounted on the closer mounting point on the frame for a super clean instalation. But as you've already pointed out living and riding in London traffick that would be head gasket suicide

Quite a few SF'rs use Water Wetter when they are trying to bring aesthetic beauty to hours of input and blood soaken spanners. A regular route is often a smaller radiator for the desired effect.
This stuff can sometimes knock 7-8 .c off a normal running temperature; http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m1b539s1733p6955&rs=gb
It's great for summer only applications, or hot countries but if you ride through the winter over here you may want to avoid it.
Adjustable fan switches are a great piece of kit - a range of adjustablity of 20.c or more can be had for as little as £25.

Re: Bitza-Blade
A year or so ago i saw a German Blade in the SF mag fitted with an oil cooler above the filter. I thought it looked sweet
I know the Blackbird runs an oil cooler and as its the same family of engines. I wonder if i could use the Birds sandwich plate and run a 9 row cooler and braided lines
Do you lot know anyone who's done this mod
Any pros/cons ????
Whats your collective thoughts lads

Re: Bitza-Blade
That looks 'Sic' m8.
I'll be interested on the cooling solutions as I'm with you on the hose route thing.
Did you resolve the extra tube take off on the standard Blade fitting? Was it a bleed/overflow?
Keep up the good work.

Well when you don't all have the tools to do the job it only makes sense to get someone else to do it for you. When I was doing mine, I had plenty of whacky idea's but didn't have the tools, skills or the money to make it happen but although someone else has done the job for you doesn't detract away from your imagination that went into the build!
Top job, keep it comin mate

Re: Bitza-Blade
Cheers lads for the comments , its much appreciated
Yesterday i went back into Serks about my rad
They quoted me £400 for a 1off rad, i thought that was abit strong
So i started hunting around and the VFR 750 rad is spot on for my needs. Its a flat rad and the same dimensions as the Blade. The top and bottom hoses and fan switch are at the back, the fans centraly mounted. the hose take offs are straight instead of 90* bends......its perfik in every way
Trying to find a VFR rad in good nick is like rocking horse shite tho
Ive found a place in japan that do new items for £225 +postage and then i still need to modify the mounting brackets so its still gonna be a £300 rad and its still gonna look stock . Id rather pay an extra oner and have a bespoke item.
So when i went to Serks and told them about the VFR, they can do me a handmade one for £285+ vat

Re: Bitza-Blade
Today i need to take a close look at the back wheel conversion
When i torqued the wheel up correctly i noticed that a 2" long section of the inner rim touched the swingarm.
Also that section of the wheel isnt finished properly and still in primer which makes me think this wheel mite be a second ????
Im gonna get it round to my mates the tyre fitter and get it on his balance machine to see if its true.
I also need to check if the VFR axel actually fits the Triumph hub correctly on the splines, im gonna check the spacers for trueness . If its a bearing problem i'll be glad coz they aint getting swapped out until the arms powdercoated

Sounds like the wheel has been repaired & it's not completly straight, it could be that part of the rim is a little proud too though. The spacers can be a slight problem too if there cast & not billet ones. Best of luck getting it sorted.
