Oulton Park - 13/02/2010
I must be completely mad but I have booked with Focused Events on a Trackday at Oulton park on the 13th Feb 2010 - just hope global warming lives up to the hype! or I will be dodging the snow drifts!
Happy New Year!

Yea mad mate.
Few years ago i did one on the 20th jan, never again, in one of the pic's it had snow on the front of the bike.
Oulton is my fav track, if your not using a snow plough, have a good time.

Re: Oulton Park - 13/02/2010
Well the trackday started well, until the 4th lap of the second session - went in a bit too fast at Lodge corner, found myself on the rumble strip, shut the throttle, next minute i have highsided! picked myself up off the track an hobbled to the grass.
Got to the medical centre to find I had bust my left collar bone and damaged my right knee!
I was airlifted to The Dutchess of Chester hospital and after x-rays etc allowed to go home!
The Blade came out of it better than I did, check out some pics! (please wait they are a bit on the large size!)
Anyone for Cadwell in August?

Id only be out there on wets, nothing less.
If you arnt using warmers, id do 2 laps at tippy toe speed.
But least you can tell everyone about it, bike doesnt look to bad, get yourself sorted out and see you back out there.

Re: Oulton Park - 13/02/2010
Thanks guys
The tyres were nice and warm, I think I caught a early apex which ran me wide onto the rumble strip, shut the throttle off and was getting back on track - must have give it a bit of gas while i was still on a bit of grass or white line, which then threw me off, bike must have remained upright until it ran out of momentum.
went to the fracture clinic yesterday and I have to see a surgeon on friday as it looks likes i may have to have the collar bone pinned, they also said that the knee may also need a bit of work as the cartlidge has come out!
Another guy came off at Water Tower on the same day, met him in the hospital. unfortunately his bike didn't fair too well and is a complete wreak!

As it happens, yes. A load of us from another forum are going on the 9th.
Lucky lucky with the bike, that's just a sacrificial cover plate you went through isn't it?
Was the airlift fun?

Re: Oulton Park - 13/02/2010
Look forward to seeing you there mate. What group will you be in? I'm planning to dip my toe in Advanced... nervously.
Re: Oulton Park - 13/02/2010
Saw the shoulder specialist on Friday, I will be going into hospital on Wednesday to have my collar bone plated as the two pieces of bone are too far away to heal themselves (just over a inch gap).
The bike is back from Oulton and has come out better than I did, will wait until my shoulder has healed then get onto fixing it back up again.
The only thing with the air ambalance was that the window was too high to see out of when you are lying down so all I could see was clouds, but they did give you headphones so that you could chat too and listen in on the pilot.
I think I am going on the Rapid Training day at Cadwell on the 24th August - www.rapidtraining.co.uk
I think i will move up to the inter's as i got a little frustrated with the beginners at oulton and this may have had a part in my accident.

Moving into inters mate, i ended up in novice because the other groups were full and its easy to get carried away, especially when the other bloke is on a thou, they all go fast on the straights but then stop for the corners.
An instructor told me, that the group speed isnt that different, in inter you just dont get the big clumps of riders playing follow my leader.
Training is always a good thing.

Re: Oulton Park - 13/02/2010
Damn - that collar bone sounds sore! I snapped mine in Pas de la Casa snowboarding but I was lucky, it healed well on its own.
I'd give advanced a bash (well, I am). At Knockhill moving up to advanced was much more peaceful than Inters - everyone knows where they're going! We usually all park up on the gassy bit on the left above the toilet block.shadow wrote:When im there on the 12\13th march, towards the end of the day im having a go in advanced, if its ok i will be in that.

The advanced group is too quick for me, think I'll make a crack at the inters this year though once I find my lost mojo

Re: Oulton Park - 13/02/2010
I'm back from my op - I now have a shaped titanium plate covering my clavicle. Apparently the bone was in several pieces once they got in there. I am excercising my left arm and I am getting more movement back on a daily basis but will still be out of action for another 4 - 6 weeks. I had also tore a ligament in my right knee, which also seems to be on the mend too.
