Booked in for DynoJet
Finally! My FireBlade is booked in for the DynoJet kit I've got to be
fitted and properly set up on a dyno. On the fifth of February I'll be
handing my bike over to the tender ministrations of "Willie" in
Hillington. Hopefully I'll have time to stay and watch him do the dyno
runs.
The bike already has a BMC filter and a fairly open can on it. I can
only pray I see improvements of the same magnitude as Converted saw
when he got his RRX done. That was truly impressive.
I did give a lot of thought to stories I'd heard about DynoJet kits causing emulsion tube wear, and advice to just put in some larger jets, but after talking it over with the dyno guy (who isn't selling me the parts so has no vested interest) I'm going with the DynoJet kit and some prayer that he knows his stuff as well as it sounds!
Thanks to Converted for giving me the inspiration with his dyno graph:

Re: Booked in for DynoJet
My rrv (the crashed one) is now back up and running with its new owner.
Its recorded 117, with standard filter, art can and motad downpipes.
Sorry no graph to show, but on the screen both power and torque were smooth lines.
Pity its not mine anymore.

Re: Booked in for DynoJet
Good luck with it Taz, been swithering over doing this myself. I have a dynojet kit sitting there doing nothing and have been thinking about getting a can also.
Looking forward to seeing the results bud
PS - "Willie fae Hillington"...? is that the same fella who used to work from Kypeside in Strathaven?

He worked in MCS Renfrew, but I think he had his dyno in Strathaven and has just moved it up to Hillington so sounds like the same guy.
Tell me you don't know horror stories about him?

On the contrary mate, I`ve heard nothing but good reports. A few folk I know have used him and he seems to have a good rep.

Can't wait for Friday, now that my other highlight for the week is past (Prodigy gig last night... I'm deaf! ).
You should get some poke out of that Kaiser.

Certainly hope so mate. That coupled with the BMC and the flapper should see a reasonable result.

Re: Booked in for DynoJet
Not had much bike time mate so not sure. Hopefully time away and a renewed vigour will sort my hash out.
The snow & ice have been pretty bad so sacked it for a bit but going out for a blast today.
Just ease it back in, I was away for a bit, then the weather turned so not had much biking time at all.

Yeah, so have I. Sadly the same reasons as ever are stopping me: two young kids and work meshing beautifully to leave me no time to get out.

Was trying to get out but work has stopped me, tomorrow it is then, "weather permitting"

Re: Booked in for DynoJet
Had fun at the dyno today, plus a bit of a surprise.
Willie did a couple of runs to get a base line and immediately told me the bike was awfully, if not suspiciously, well set up, and certainly hadn't been running lean. The AFR was pretty close to spot on and on the first couple of runs the bike was producing 122bhp.
Quick look under the tank and his suspicions were confirmed: the bike already has a DynoJet kit fitted! It was obviously fairly well set up too.
Despite suffering a stinking cold Willie did some more runs, including some with the airbox cracked slightly open to experiment with allowing a little more airflow. That produced an extra 2bhp, but also slightly leaned out the midrange so we'd have had to start adjusting the needle height. Given how good it was he advised me to keep my money and leave it as was.
After some extra lube on the chain it was consistantly getting just over 123bhp, 70lb-ft of torque and giving a genuine 165mph at 12,000 revs (er... the redline being 11,000!).
Something like 25 runs (mostly single gear, but five or six through the gears) and a fair bit of time. The cost? A princely £50! I'm well impressed with Willie of Dynotech Ecosse in Hillington and I'd advise anyone to use him!

Re: Booked in for DynoJet
Yeah, I was impressed with the fact he was advising me to save money. He also did the same for a mate who was asking for advice, seems a very honest guy. Judging buy the machine tools (lathe, milling machine) in his workshop he's also prepared to take on more than just your average service.
It's nice to meet someone working on bikes who's so happy just chatting away about them too.

Re: Booked in for DynoJet
Good result Taz.
I dropped mine off at YPE yesterday, he's working on it today so will see what happens. He suggested leaving the BMC off & seeing what he gets before taking my dosh.
