Word is out that the route from Locks Bottom to Hastings is being saturated with unmarked Police cars.
The group meeting up in Nettos car park will have to consider an alternative or do the route in compliance that is small number plates and loud Rossi exhausts are on the main hit list.

Fine by me mate, the XR has a almost legal plate (edges cut down a bit with legal numbers) but my LeoVince exhaust is a bit on the loud side when you open the bike up... I'll just have to be gentle on the throttle Laughing

Think I'll give the Mayday run a miss then, shame the pigs can't fined something more productive to do with their time (like catching criminals) but then where's the profit in that?

Post by wild bill Sat 02 May 2009, 23:06

I've been doing this run for donkeys years and there is always talk about the police doing this'n'that and yes there is a fairly high police presence but they rarely stop anyone, infact i've never seen anyone get stopped or been stopped on the Mayday and i run small plates and loud exhausts every year.

All they can do is gimmie a 7 day ticket to change my exhaust, if that's the case once i've done the run i'll put the standard can back on, get me ticket stamped and put it back on again the next day 20min job.

They can line the whole route with ole bill for all i care, they ain't gonna spoil my fun tongue

Been doing the run for years myself Bill and have seen Police intensiy increase as its become a money spinners for them and the losers being the locals who would miss out on the revenue generated by the bikers for almost fifty years. Move away with the bulk of riders around 0930-0945 stands a better chance on not being singled out.
Then the weather on the day will have the final say.

I normally leave with the main crowd anyway MB, the XR will struggle to do over 100mph so i'm only gonna be cruising at 60-70 on the open road bits.

I think the police are only there as a deterrent to stop people taking the piss and to discourage illegal riders from turning up.

Anyway, i couldn't give a flying fook, weather forecast is hot'n'sunny and the XR is primed and ready, bring it on woot

I'm OK with that Billyboy.
There could be at least 8-10 bikers at Nettos car park so we will have to designate a meeting up point in Hastings should we get seperated.
Suggest the main BMF stand on the Prom.

We park on the corner of East Beach Street and Rock-a-nore road every year, a nice spot right opposite the fish'n'chip shop we can keep an eye on our bikes and it's a good spot to check out passing bikes and take pictures. There is about 12-15 of us meeting at Nettos, see you there about 9:00-9:15.

Hope this works!

It was a good day as it goes,I was with cabbie and wild bill with his son riding pillion with me on my 900 hornet.
Mostly very sensible riding going on from what I saw, even though wild bills son became a member of "Club120" when we got involved with a load of R1s/R6s/Ducatis'etc.,he was very excited to say the least! and told me not to do it again,so it was 70s thereafter!

As above, had a blinding day, the blade felt like a new bike with the new suspension and brakes and when we hit traffic the clutch was just awesome with only one finger needed to operate it.
Shame the sun didn't come out to play but lets hope it's out next time?

Yeah i had a good time and my son loved riding pillion on the back of the 900 Hornet, hes not stopped waffling on about it all night! Laughing Cheers Rintintin. Good to me Rocket and MB, it's always good to put some faces to names and have a waffle. I think the only down side to the day was the sun disappearing about 10mins after we got to Hastings so it ended up being a bit nippy and the sheer pandemonium when the majority of the pack descended into Hastings, it was almost gridlocked!
May Day Run Mayday10

In all a great day was had specially the ride back, with a distinct lack of police we could stretch our bikes legs a little.
Cheers for a good day fellas, your all on the list for the next ride thumbup

Met up with club members at Locks Bottom, traffic flow had exceptional number of cars en route which led to well behaved riding. Good to see bikes of all descriptions displayed on the seafront. Weather could have been kinder, still had the opportunity to blow the cobwebs out of the exhaust.

Did this a few years ago, while working in Orpington, great fun and glad it is still surviving.

Shame the police target these events for all the wrong reasons.

How many "other crimes" where committed due to the police all being concentrated on one event?

Post by wild bill Thu 07 May 2009, 23:07

Yeah i agree, the plod was certainly very visible most of the way down in vans z-cars and plenty of bike cops but they didn't give us any grief even when me and cabbie over-took 2 bike cops on the way down, both cabbie and i have illegal pipes and plates and they didn't even look at us. There was also plenty of bikes much louder than ours with fagbox size plates that the police seemed to turn a blind eye to...

As i said before, i think they're only there to stop people taking the right piss (150mph etc) and discourage uninsured/illegal riders from joining in.

Right, when's the next bike run in the south???

You are all welcome to a ride around Romney Marsh with me gents. About 10 miles east of hastings and fantastic , bendy, camera free roads. I'll be out on May 17th if my knee feels better?
