Sounds like fun!
The back end looks too long, could do with cutting back the plastics & stubbying the can to suit i reckon.

Re: My new project mini moto RR8 aka CBR Miniblade.
Cabbie: what type of decals you have, I am thinking about just going for some sheets of vinyl and making the the wings out of that as honda will be a small fortune and too big so they will need cutting down anyway.
1992fb: There were a few different pictures of that model bike in different colours and the tail didnt look as bad on other ones but I will see how it is once its arrived and assembled as to how much to shave off, as for the can I will see whats involved, thanks for the comments.
I updated the picture to make it a bit less ... erm well it was shit so I did it again

I'll keep an eye on this
I've got a mini moto, with blata barrel that goes like hot snot, scarey doing 55/60 on one of those things
I'll pop some pics on, I was thinking of doing a mini blade too

Re: My new project mini moto RR8 aka CBR Miniblade.
Cleedubber: that looks like its the same type of bike I dunno if yours is an original blata but thats the style (copy) of the one I have bought and they look very similar (exception of the frames).
I know the underseat look suits the RR6/7 style so when I get it I will weight up whether it would look better as a RR7 or RR8.
I cant wait to get stuck in to it I love modifications just as much as riding so have to have something to do to the bikes when not riding.

Its not an original blata (hell they're mad money), the guy I got it from used to race it, but hurt his back so had to give up
Its mad fast and is great fun
Look forward to seing what you do with yours, havent decided what to do yet, I've seen the fairings really cheap so might add a full one

Re: My new project mini moto RR8 aka CBR Miniblade.
well the purchase fell through on the above bike, uk mini motos are shitbags.
So i purchased this one tonight.
Its not watercooled or as fast at the one above but its better than nothing and its a genuine blata so should be a bit more reliable than the chinese copies.
more when i pick it up, this shit is gonna be a laugh

Re: My new project mini moto RR8 aka CBR Miniblade.
Here are a couple of the frame & exhaust (VHT paint) painted and all the parts cleaned up (was thick goo from oil and dirt).
I also raped some brake cable covers off my mountain bike and also did a nice mod to the bottom of the fuel tank to assist with any possible heat build up due to the exhaust being mighty close
more later off to halfrauds now for some more paint and bits

Re: My new project mini moto RR8 aka CBR Miniblade.
ok on with the progress, spent a few hours (all afternoon/evening) down the garage tinkering and spraying and generally pissing about but here are the latest pictures.
Changes made so far:
Black frame & support brackets.
VHT Black paint on exhaust.
Black forks and brake caliper brackets.
Black wheels
Progrips (replaced the domino ones)
Red barends (pics to follow with new red) & adjusted angle to not hit fairing.
Red mudguard (was black) top and front fairings to do later
All parts cleaned and greased prior to fitting (where applicable)
I will sort the fairings out tomorrow and give the mudguard a good laquer as with all the panels more so the top one the laquer is petrol resistant so if any spillages hit it they shouldnt f**k the paint up like it has to the original paint.
more later

Re: My new project mini moto RR8 aka CBR Miniblade.
ok the mods keep on coming
Further things done.
Laquered the front mudguard and added a nice skull decal to it as I have to have the spirit of Deathace in the bike
Resprayed the bar ends and fitted them they are nice and tight and should act as crash protection.
Taped up the underside of the seat fairing ready to make a cast of the seat section.
Made a carbon chain guard mould to make a combined hugger/chainguard from it.
Made up a carbon mould of the tail section only for the moment to make an undertail for the bike and also give the rear seat unit a bit of support.
I will be doing a mould of the front section to make a support and a fuel tank holder so that I can just whip the sections off as needed.
I also have to take mouldings of the front fairing to be able to make supports and perhaps a different fairing (maybe later).

Re: My new project mini moto RR8 aka CBR Miniblade.
well here is some more pics of the saga so far.
I extended the sides of the top/seat fairing because they just didnt fit the frame right and left a large gap all round.
The front of the new tank made higher.
Left side with new profile (still to be trimmed).
Right side with new profile (still to be trimmed).
The carbon laid and setting.
One the carbon has set for a while I will remove it from the top/seat fairing and cut it to join the rear section and the underskin of the new fairings will be complete, it just remains to put the top skin of carbon on and bond it to the moulds so the stiffness is there and see how it comes out before more resin on top to protect it then spray it to match the rest of the bodywork.

I am going for a top skin and i will then resin it and get it flat before painting it red (with exposed carbon parts).
I have the front/top fairing to make as well so I will get that done once the seat is finished then I can match them in.

Re: My new project mini moto RR8 aka CBR Miniblade.
I have got the vinyl on order to custom make the wings for the fairing and tank unit for both the original fairings and the carbon ones (when they are finished).
Also ordered a couple of honda logos to go on the tank edges in conjunction with the bigger wings (like on the RR8).
I have to wait to get the vinyl first before I paint the fairings as I need to layout the style and then cut the fairings accordingly to match them to the blades style (overkill maybe but hey I want it looking right).

Re: My new project mini moto RR8 aka CBR Miniblade.
Don't think I'm being over cynical here; it strikes me that you are going to be falling off this thing quite regular racing your mates (at least till you get used to it).
Aren't you going to feel a bit pissed off spending all this time on it to chuck it on the first couple of outings?
Know it's a bit after the horse has bolted now but wouldn't it have better to have got past the falling off stage first?
Are replacement plastics easy to get for these?
One things for sure, it beats having one of those tiny kits as a replica of your bike!

Re: My new project mini moto RR8 aka CBR Miniblade.
dave: I know exactly what you are saying and I can fully agree in normal circumstances it would be a natural reaction to be pissed at any damage to your paj but with me I look at things differently.
I love the mods and spending time to make it look great and how I envision it but I also understand that its going to be twated but thats half the fun of knowing if it does that I get to spend time putting it right again.
The aim is to have a mini replica that my son can admire and appreciate as much as I do with the blade and if I dropped mine or sent it down the road I would be a bit pissed but at the end of the day it can be rebuilt, if my son came off the miniblade so long as he stands up and he is ok then the bike damage is superficial.
I have 3 fairings planned.
The original with as many things done to it to emulate the look of the RR8.
The carbon fibre one for practise sessions and using as a donor bodywork to trash.
2nd carbon fibre one with modified style to emulate the RR8 with mods to the tail and tank, sprayed and stickered up to look as close as possible which will be used for display and later when he doesnt twat it
its all good fun and allows me to save money from piling it into the blade (only delayed).

Re: My new project mini moto RR8 aka CBR Miniblade.
That's real neat Russ, I didn't realise it was for your lad; thought it was another toy for you.
You ought to try and get him involved in the build next time; if nothing else as he grows he gets to realise that if he trashes it he pays the price of having to put it right.
My son never took to bikes, bought him a Suzuki DR125 when he was about 13.
Just like my old man has always lived and breathed football, I hate it, and Daniel doesn't like bikes.
When I was a kid I had football forcefed, and couldn't do that to my son, so encouraged him in what he enjoyed instead, I.T.
He's just past the second year of his degree course as a software engineer, so in retrospect I'm glad I didn't force him.
So don't be too disappointed if he doesn't take to it, buddy.
Keep up the good work.

Re: My new project mini moto RR8 aka CBR Miniblade.
Cheers for the post Dave, I would be lying if I said the bike was solely for my son its for all the family (wife rides and both daughters love going pillion on our bikes as well as our son).
My father loved bikes as does my father in law so its a pretty cool life having so many people in the family loving the same passion and making the most of it when we can.
Regarding getting my son to join in the build he has a little attention span when it comes to things like that but he loves seeing it in stages and cant wait to ride it.
He does like going for rides and such like but he is a car nut loves his need for speed games and he knows a hell of a lot about the cars from the games and reading mags. But its good that he, like me, loves em both.
back on topic I thought I would be home by now but alas I am still stuck in the north sea and not due home until tuesday/wednesday which makes finishing the miniblade by the 30th a tight squeeze and I do not want to rush it so its either take it as it is or sweet talk the mrs into letting me move in to the garage for a couple of days .

Your Lad sounds a lot like mine!
Likes the bike coz its time away from the Girls but really he's a car nut.
Especially V8's & PS2 driving games.
I bet your itching to get back at it.
Them Mini Motos look huge fun, I wish I could fold myself up small enough to have a go

taking no prisoners and getting a good crack on it today.
some dry fit shots with the screen and bodywork in place prior to decals and laquer so I can line up the decals like the blade
And a shot with miniblade and big daddy
more later off to cinema with the family.
