My 08 Blade Mods.
I will try and put up a few pictures of the mods made already but in the mean time this is the latest editions (arse backwards i know but hey ho).
Well I decided to have a look and see what else I wanted to do to the blade and whilst I was over in the states I picked up some of the OEM (CBR1000RR) stickers that are used on the winning red bikes in the US and went about cutting it down so that I had the 1000RR piece only.
I decided that I would put them on the tail unit much like previous blades have had. I also got rid of the Honda sticker and my additional Fireblade sticker off the tail unit (see previous postins for pics) so that the 1000RR would be the focal point for the tail.
Overall I am pleased with the result (well for the moment at least).

It came out better than I expected and here is the bike from each side

Re: My 08 Blade Mods.
I always was in the frame of mine that if I bought an 08 Blade it would have to be a white one, but that looks so sweet.......if the Scoob didn't srink so much I would be tempted..

Thanks Alsieboy I have to give credit to you, your UT is absolutely gorgeous and likewise if I had some extra capital I would seriously put 3-4k into a very tasty example of the UT.

Re: My 08 Blade Mods.
Radiobloke: comments always welcome good and bad I do hear what your saying about the hugger, I will try and upload some pics without it and it just doesn't look right with the belly pan if its not on there, even the smaller one in black or painted.
The indicators are a temporary measure until I remodel the tail section (like below).
Once that is done I will have integrated indicators in the tail light section and will also mount the plate slightly different to how it is now, the R&G was always a temporary measure to get rid of the hanger they come with stock.
In regards to the tax disc, I have been collared a few times over the years for not displaying it so its easier to leave it where it is (oxford bolted waterproof holder).
If you are ever in the area you are more than welcome to have a play.

Re: My 08 Blade Mods.
Something about the look from the side just didn't sit well with me and I pin pointed it the other day when looking at the AMA rep 08 blade so having messed around with photoshop I decided it needed to be done.
I took the side panels off that fit between the seat and the subframe and took them to a friend to paint them up as he did such a good job of the belly pan I felt it only fair he repeat the good job on the infills.
Before (black plastic):
After (red paint):
Before (black plastic):
After (red paint):
The colour on the in fills seem a little darker but they will do for now until i take the seat fairing stuff down to him then he can paint them all up the same as the tank/belly pan.

Re: My 08 Blade Mods.
Yeah I still have the hugger, I might swap back to the OEM splashguard when the tail is shaved but I doubt it as I like the current hugger and pics really don't do it the justice it deserves.

Re: My 08 Blade Mods.
Fitted its new exhaust pipe and feck me it sounds gorgeous, video doesn't do it justice but I took one of it anyway.

I can now custom make the fill in panel to clean up the gap from the OEM can and bring it more symmetrical with the left side.

Re: My 08 Blade Mods.
Have done a preliminary template using the black belly pan I have (saves ruining the red one) to make the in-fill for the exhaust.
I will start laying the carbon fibre and fibre glass onto this to build it up and bring it flush with the belly pan.
slowly slowly does it though as I do not want to rush or mess it up.

Re: My 08 Blade Mods.
first lay of carbon, its what I am going to use as the backing form I will trim it and get it sorted once set but it gives me a solid form to work from to build up the layers and get it flat and straight.

Re: My 08 Blade Mods.
Where did you get your carbon and fibreglassing stuff from mate?. I'm trying to make a headlight fairing.

Re: My 08 Blade Mods.
Fibre glass resin I use is fastglass in a yellow tin and associated harder from wilko or halfords (more expensive but they do kits).
The carbon fibre I managed to get on ebay, the stuff I am using is 6k plain weave, but it was hard to find some decent aircraft grade stock as the cheap shit dissintegrates when your moving it about, this stuff also comes with a fibreglass backing to help hold it all together but if you are too rough it will still part the weave.
The piece I used above was some off cuts from other pieces I have made and I have about 2 metres of good stuff left for the next layer.
I am using cardboard with sticky back foil tape (heat shield) to use as the template because the resin doesn't stick to the foil tape but it also allows me to bend the card and then the foil keeps it in place.
If you notice on the first lay pictures you can see the bottom is actually bent out (purpose) this is so the panel will curve around the exhaust pipework without touching it and it makes it not so flat all the way along, it will take more shape as time goes by.

Re: My 08 Blade Mods.
cheers megawatt, alas overpriced stuff is not available for the blue flame can so its either make it or pay someone else a fortune to make one for me (last resort), however depending on how it turns out I may just see if blue flame want to invest in making some

Re: My 08 Blade Mods.
possibly round it off m8 so it doesnt look too sharp and angular i might even see what it looks like with a curved shroud going up to cover the link pipe but I havent really decided on final product until I get closer to mounting it I can always add or take some away before its ready to paint.

Re: My 08 Blade Mods.
Have you worked with CF before Russ? I watched a video on youtube of a product for covering ABS or fibreglass. It took a lot of smoothing, more resin and sanding with finer grades of wet n dry until it was really dull , but smooth. When he applied the last coat of resin it looked superb!

Re: My 08 Blade Mods.
megawatt I am learning as I go, I have made a few items for practise and project (minimoto fairings, exhaust shield, screen etc) but this is the first thing I have made from scratch for the blade.
I haven't done fibre glassing either I just went straight in with the carbon items I am painting the final product anyway as I do not really want too much carbon on there showing (exhaust tip may yet be painted).
I am picking it up pretty well but the test will be the final product.
