I think its designed to be as a additional to the stock clocks.
Its to small to use as the sole data provider.

But anything is possible.

the size is a worry but to be honest i only ever look down at the clocks to check speed in built up areas /past speed cameras. It looks a good bit of kit that would replace the standards on mine

It was when I was a tester, anything over 50 cc needed to have one, why would they change the regs?

nothing about speedo's...they aren't a part of the bike MOT as it has nothing to do with being roadworthy.

its the highways act that states you need a speedo as IIRC

I'll also double check with a tester i know

rofl I've been riding with nothin bar the pushbike speedo since I've been back on the rode with it, I agree you don't need any of the lights or temp gauge, the fan cuts in at a good temp so no worries there but you know what some people are like, they like all the lights & gauges so I'm getting it sorted ready to sale.....

Griz....you seem to have an immoticon fetish...try weaning yourself of em Razz

just got a response from a tester pal.

i asked him about speedo and idiot lights..

"high beam and indicator idiot lights required, speedo not checked during the mot BUT it is required under the construction use reg's so the tester is within his right to fail, same applies to small plates."

so I read that as...not an mot item...its up to testers descretion...like small plates are.

you can get a nazi or a bike friendly tester!

The VOSA MOT regulations are made up from vehicle Type approval regualtions, as well as road worthiness checks.

Having an illuminated speedometer for MOT is a essential as the vehicle had to be type approved with an illuminated speedometer fitted as standard. It is not something that is checked under the mot but it has to be there working with a light.
MOT regs which are not specifically categorised go under the guidelines from type approval - if it is fitted as standard then it has to be there at MOT time in a working and safe condition.

Number plates on vehicles registered after 2000 have to be of legal size, with legal size lettering, with BSAU mark, and the vehicles supplying dealers details.

VOSA's rules on number plates state Number plates not satisfying all the requirements should not be passed' - there is no mention or reference for number plate issues being at the testers discretion.

With the increasing amount of MOT station licenses being withdrawn, new licences being refused, and VOSA considering abolishing the new vehilce 3 year rule , testing stations need to be extra careful.

There are many incognito VOSA VTS inspectors attending stations with vehilces to assess and curtail offending stations, and if you let things slip you get the mother of all bollockings, followed up by threatening letters.

seems that some testers are more leaniant than others. Its kinda always been the case.

And I don't reckon every tester knows or upholds the directives to the letter..maybe thats where the differing opinions come in?

my blade failed on a few things last year..but the speedo wasn't one .

they actually commented that the reflector wasn't central on the bike....
