RRW rear swing arm conversion

Post by rammy on Mon 14 Sep 2009, 16:14

Thinking of swapping the rear swing arm or modifiying the old one. Before i start has anyone converted the rrw swing arm to a more modern alternative.

Cheers

Simon

I know I modify the crap outa my bikes...but on this one I've gotta ask why?

is it for improved handling? the look? or cos you are bored?

I can't see the point if its for handling (sure the Honda guys would know what they are doing)

for the look...yeah I get that...but if you are just replacing the swingarm for another 2 arm swinger...and nothing else on the bike is modded...its a lot of pi55ing about for not much result

cos you're bored....yeah I get that....but its up to you if you want the grief of doing it.

I'm not saying don't do it. Just wondering what the motivation is...then we can advise better...ie it might be for hitting a drag strip so a 3" over Metchamex swingarm might do it!

I made a double braced arm by welding the brace off a scratched arm underneath the original. Just for bling reasons and I added bobbins. You can't fit a 929 onwards arm onto an old shape though as I think they are bolted to the engine?

I agree with RB.
Isnt the single sided arms, we love sooo much, longer than the standard arm- thus having an effect (however slight) on the handling?

If you want Bling and handleing then polish the one ya got.
That should keep the boredom at bay too.
Drag racing? leave the Blade alone and get an old GS/GSX/GiXR.
Just my opinion o course.

They are bolted to the engine, with a bracket.

Pretty new to messing with the layout of bikes as always had a new un. With the credit crunch ect and shite weather of late amongst other things i sold the new blade and thought id give up for a bit but got itchy feet with no bike so ive picked up this rrw, bit of a dog and really needs the works. Was going to ride her round and be happy but im not happy with the look/performance/handling so decided that she is a winter project. bought a 929 front end that i believe is a pretty easy mod but thought the rear swing arm was a bit ugly 2, hence the question. dont want to be spending silly money i dont have but if i get the opinion of a few in the know then will sit around waiting for the right bit of kit (got all winter now) would love to convert to a single sider but they have been silly money anyone have a link to a conversion on this???? and what swingarms fit with the least mods? maybe im bored ? no ive got rakes of work to do in the house but want to pop over to devils on a bit of something different!!

Thanks in advance for any help

Simon
