Planned Winter mods.

Thought I would put in here the mods I am planning for the winter period, I don't stop riding during winter otherwise I would never ride the bike but during part of its lay up I will be doing some bits and pieces to it, I have done the majority of the cosmetic mods to mine so far but there are a few outstanding.

this is the first to be done.

As you can see on the stock/R&G tail the black section hangs down a bit making the tail look ok but still porky. With the subframe cut and braced on the top you can get the smooth lines and it looks more sleek.

Where would the licence plate and indicators go?

You could put a stick on number plate on that underside, that'd keep it clean, then buy some yellow Led's and some pcb and make your own indicator system mounted in the side of the tailpiece on the underside.

Excuse my poor photoshop skills - But I've tried to show what I mean - with clear led's that would flash amber.




I like the clean look of the silver can - is that also planned with the gold levers and red grips, and finally the black casings you wanted last year?

Also Russ - where did you read about that mod? I'd like to have a read of it as I'm still wanting to change the rear end on my RR - I've thought of countless alternative rear ends to use but keep coming back to the '08's every time.

I had the idea last year fbf and the chap that did the above had the same idea it was spooky

His solution was the same as mine but he obviously fabricated his bracket different to how I was going to (but his is better). I have since obtained some really nice thick aluminium plate so I can at least keep my bracket light and yet sturdy also it allows me to play about with milling by hand (*SHIT AINT DONE THAT IN YEARS*) to follow the contours of the subframe inside.

In regards to the undertail bit I have been honing my skills in the carbon fibre department with all the other bits and pieces for the mini motos it allows me to form it how I want and make bits to add to it for the plate.

The indicators idea is brilliant and one for me to look into but my primary solution is a set of Clear Alternative tail lights and then cut them down to fit the single line brake light look that big swede (the chaps bike above) did.

Because of my self confessed OCD I can't help but take what he did and make it better, neater, more OEM finish to it all so this is why I have been planning for a year but only now am I confident of what I want, how and the ability to do it without it looking like a pigs ear.

I will be using the carbon fibre for strength but fibre glass and paint for the finished surface I will also be reforming the lense of the rear light to allow for waterproofness after the modifications have been done to it (cutting down the board and electronics and integrating indicators).

In response to the gold levers and red grips no I am wanting to keep things subtle and OEM looking but with noticable differences over the next red blade. The levers I have are TITAX Foldables and I think they look great but in keeping with the original. The silver exhaust shield is what I had and hated hence the powdercoating to me it looked out of place being silver in a prominant place, bolts and fixings I dont mind silver along with forks and discs but the major big things like the rear sets and the exhaust and caliper bracket all seemed an afterthought with a black frame/swingarm/subframe.

I like things looking in my minds eye as pure genius and to tarnish it with little bits out of place just spoil it for me. I do have further cosmetic mods to make but they will all be performed after this one and when the photoshopping is finished.

I forgot all about you powder coating the zorst and I've got so used to
seeing your posts of your bike I started thinking the black was original

Just so I can see the undercowl of your tailpiece compared to yours.

A Few shots with the R&G tail tidy, I only have 2 pics of the stock and thats from the day I bought it. I ripped the arse off 20 mins later and swapped it out.

Sorry m8 I misread the first request what you are after is the painted section below where I have shown, I will sort some pics out tonight when I get home and upload em afterwards.

The piece the yank fabrcated was the section that goes from the tail light underneath to the OEM section ( that you want pics of) as for the tail light its complete one piece with 2 steps to it, the yank again has cut the bottom section off the tail light to make it one strip (easily done).

No more pictures needed at the moment Russ, thanks anyway.

Just wasn't sure what was going on up there, so I'm now assuming the black underside on yours is standard compared to the yank's fabrication.

A nice mirror polished ally job will no doubt cause havoc for any gatso's that are hiding round unknown bends

The black section on mine is the R&G tail tidy the oem has a bloody huge arm hanging off the arse. the part the yank has fabricated is the part i need your tail to make a mould from to create the same thing, because of the pain in the arse and the tightness of the tail on mine I do not want to tempt fate taking it off and on to build the underside and end up damaging it getting it on or off.

I will treat your panel as if it was my own and it will be protected

just to clarify the photoshops of the pods and airducts was an exercise i did to rule out doing them as too much red just spoils the lines of the bike, the tail I do want to do but even then I am dubious

nah I bought mine from EVL Plastics but powerbronze do them as well, I like EVL plastics they are well made and for £20 cant go wrong for protection for your lights against stone chips.

Easier to replace 20 quid protectors than 600 quid headlights.

Did you have to remove the headlights to fit ?

Or can you place without doing that ?

Are your's dark or light smoked so I can take a judgement call ?

Mine are dark smoke so the light still passes through them they are fixed over the top whilst the headlights are in situ, just use the velcro that comes with them to position it correctly to support all edges.

If you look at this photo you can see the lights on and where I fixed the velcro (made of plastic and very strong).
