another Saturday....another few hours in the garage...

so...

it all started so well,...The 93 blade went to its new owner. leaving me with some extra space.

started with cutting the standard subframe down...hacksaw..3 minutes...sorted!

remembered I had a curved blade rad in the garage...it fits!!!

then it all went to shit...

I realised that although I can move the top shock mount over...I'd forgotten that the bottom will also need moving over...duuurrrr

a small tantrum followed this revelation...

was thinking about custom built wishbones...cutting the frame mounts and re welding...all sorts of bloody things went through my head...

But then ( having learnt from previous tantrums....usually involving a hammer followed by regret) I sat down, took 5 mins with a sandwich and a beer...

it worked!.....came up with a solution...SPACERS !!!

so,...who's gonna make me some spacers....

5 minutes...thinking....I'll make em!!

so I did,...found some engine spacers from a blade..hacksaw...file....file again...file some more..f**k...file some more...done!!

so I was in the 'doing' mood...so I drilled the frame rail...

i only bleddy sorted the back end out...all in line...mayzin !!
I even made a spacer for the top shock mount to lift the back end a little!

did the usual seat unit swap pictures to round off the day

and to uphold the tradition of being a pic whore..

And so we have another Saturday....and another coupla hours in the garage.

so,...previously everything was just dry fitted...finger tight. so after getting some disc bolts thru the post from ebay I took the front to peices again and built it properly.

decided to start bolting the bits on that I have been stockpiling from ebay...mainly cos I've forgotten what I've bought...was suprised to see a clutch MC on my shelf....forgot I bought one...nearly bought another last night!! and also to spot stuff I need.

made the last spacer for the rear suspension...but the bolts haven't turned up from ebay yet...a week after I bought them >8-(

I then tried to figger out where all the hoses went..and lost about half an hour on a oil line before I realised the oil cooler is fitted in the fairing nose cone on the bird....duuuur.....so I'll need to sort that out..

With the front end in I looked around the garage and saw a cbr600 exhaust system in the corner...hmmmm...lets see what that looks like...so I put the pipes on the engine ( b45tard job THAT was...bloody jigsaw!)..then offered up the cbr zorst. I think it would look ok actually...but I might go underslung. will cut the pipe before the rear split and fit a stubby can...maybe?!?!

also had another play with the seat...and I think its looking better where I put it today ( cheers Ed)

That looks great, but now the 6rr tail doesn't look as good as it did as there's a pipe underneath.

It may be because the subframe needs hiding in there, but you could go with a single seat and side shrouds underneath and around the seat, and then just the remainder of the exhaust in picture 1, I bet it'd look real aggressive without a the complete tail

They will at the top end I would have thought. Evertyime I've fitted a full race system with bigger bore headers than stock, some bottom end torque has been lost.

The 6rr has smaller diameter headers than the thou rr, but small downpipes give more torque and bottom end grunt.....which that lump already has plenty of

wouldn't fit a standard 6 system.

looking around at race pipes....or just get some pipework made. just used that for a looksee cos I had it lying around.

Did you speak to spondon to see if they would rejig the frame to fit the bird lump?

not much progress this week.

my first attempt at sorting the rear linkage resulted in it being locked solid.

just had a weekend of taking it to peices and making new spacers etc...

it boings up n down nicely now eyebrow

ok....another saturday...with a twist!

this is rapidly turning into a budget build...I'm being made redundant on thursday..so I thought I'd spend time in the garage sticking all the things together that I have already bought rather than pay for bespoke zorstpipes n stuff.

also the guy who was going to make a new subframe was sacked for ...err..making stuff for his mates!

so...today...

fitted new front wheel bearings

fitted throttle switches and brake lines

fitted hydraulic clutch line

fitted ( needs a bracket making) the oil cooler and lines from an X11

then went angle grinder crazy...

chopped the pipes down and slapped on a stubby end can ( still needs spinning round a little)

then took a slitter disc to the blackbird subframe...and played with the angles
two options...but one is the prefered...just need to make some brackets to keep it all together ( can't weld!)

then I got the loom out of the box...I hate electrics!

so currently the bike looks like a spewed up spaghetti all over it!

Budget bird will slow a little in its build...but hopefully it'll keep me sane!

anyone want to buy a car?...

gis a job....I can do that!
